Youth Faces NS AWOL Charges But AWOL During Court Hearing By Saying He Needed The Toilet

The words of people are strange things.

It’s like, I just blabber some nonsense and you can understand me, and I can also understand you.

But if you think about it. Words are just noises right? What makes it so different from say, the revving of an exhaust engine, or the flushing sound of a toilet, or the static sound from office aircon?

Editor in the background: Oi, where the articles? Why this one so many grammar mistake? Siao liao, how come you dunno that one outdated news?

Hmmm yes, no different from the sounds of the wind blowing.

But it would appear that my own expertise on selective hearing is only at an amateur level.

Today’s case (pun intended?) is on an NSF who went AWOL displayed expert levels of turning the human language into mere audio contaminants.

In other words, this was a youth who cheated and lied all the way in more than one occasion until words probably mean nothing to him.

It’s not something we need to learn, of course.

About To Be Brought To State Courts, “Went Toilet”

19-year-old Muhammad Nadhir Kadir Maideen had more than a dozen criminal charges, including being AWOL (Absent Without Official Leave) for NS, and was to be brought to the State Courts yesterday (25 Sep 2019).

Surely, being AWOL once meant that he won’t AWOL for the hearing again, right?

That seemed to be what the State Courts were banking on. Who could foresee that this criminal mastermind who has a record of not showing up to not show up?

Though I put it like that, I can’t blame them. Nadhir’s mother was to bring accompany him. While they were waiting for a taxi to fetch them to the court, he told his mother he wanted to go to the toilet.

And then he went AWOL again.

His Offences

The short version is that he went AWOL in NS, and also lied and cheated people for money.

The long version is… let’s just say it’s a pretty long list of crimes.

1. AWOL from NS Duty in SCDF From 26 Dec 2018 to 30 Jan 2019

Rest of the list is cheating and lying crimes.

2. Stealing about S$5,000 worth of camera equipment (Canon EOS 5D Mark III ~S$2,000, Canon camera lens ~S$2,400) at an HDB void deck in Pasir Ris in Jan 2019

3. Lying to two people about renting cameras and equipment for S$50 a day (presumably then stole them), who then handed him said equipment

4. Lying about renting a camera and lens to another person, but planned to sell them this time

It’s not just cameras that Nadhir was interested in.

This one is a bit confusing, and there’s probably a really interesting story behind it but this is all the info we have:

5. Cheating a 22-year-old three times in Jan 2019, by pretending to be his friend or the friend’s cousin and then asking for S$50 or S$100 for the friend’s “grandfather’s prayer and ritual” through phone text.

So what happened here? Did the 22-year-old thought he got a friend because his grandfather had something unfortunate happen to him, but it turned out to be a scammer?

It’s certainly a kick in the nuts that nobody deserves in a time of emotional need.

6. Had someone hand him an Oppo A3 phone and S$500 with the lie that he can upgrade the phone to Oppo R15 Pro with the money

7. Stealing two iPhones in Aug 2018 and Jan 2019

8. Stealing a DBS Platinum credit card from a person in a Sengkang flat in July 2018, then using it to buy a pack of cigarettes

In total, he faces 13 charges.

What seems consistent in all the crimes is constant lying for the sake of money.

Once again, the world needs a reminder that it’s just hard to trust the good of people sometimes.
