What would you do if you were out on bail for a criminal offence?
Here are your options:
- Stay out of trouble and reflect on your mistakes
- Watch episodes of Squid Game until you have to go back to court
- Consume an illegal drug
Now, the last option is clearly a bad move, right? As everyone above the age of five would know, possessing, dealing, or consuming illegal drugs would not be a good idea here in Singapore.
But this is exactly what one youth did while he was out on bail for another offence.
Who would do such a thing, you ask? The same youth who did a backflip in a rhino enclosure, of course.
Youth Who Did Backflip in Rhino Enclosure Faced New Charge for Consuming Cannabis While on Bail
The youth, 19-year-old Ralph Wee Yi Kai, is accused of consuming a cannabinol derivative while he was out on bail this year on 6 Aug.
The cannabinol derivative comes from the drug cannabis, which, as you know, is banned in Singapore.
This is why he had to return to court yesterday (13 Oct), to face a charge of drug consumption.
No further details were provided in court documents as to how or where the drug was consumed.
What is certain, is that the teen is facing several criminal charges.
Did Backflip in Rhino Enclosure
Trouble started for Wee with a stunt at a rhino enclosure.
It was in the third week of December 2020 that Wee went viral on TikTok with the stunt. In the video, Wee can be seen trespassing into a rhino exhibit, doing a backflip, and darting out of the enclosure.
In the five seconds that he was inside the enclosure, two huge White rhinos could be seen in the background, not too far from the youth.
The youths facetiously added the text “Keep your distance” on top of the video, as well as “who’s man is this [sic]”.
Fortunately, the police soon found out whose man that was. And they discovered that this wasn’t his only misdeed.
Charged for Killing Frog
Around the same time that the rhino incident occurred, a video clip of Wee and other teenagers “playing” with frogs went viral on social media.
To the horror of anyone with a conscience, the teens took out some live frogs from a box, placed them on a foosball table, and began hitting the ball around.
One frog was clearly trying to avoid being hit.
Another frog wasn’t as fortunate as it was struck by a ball that was flung at a high speed and with some force. The impact severely injured the amphibian and it died shortly after.
Wee was later charged with killing the poor frog by causing unnecessary pain and suffering.
Facing Six Charges
Currently, the teen is facing six charges in total.
He’s also accused of:
- Vandalising a bus-stop information panel along Sixth Avenue near the Bukit Timah Area on 9 Oct last year by hitting it, causing damage which amounted to S$900
- Damaging the side mirrors of two luxury cars – a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz – on the same day. The damage amounted to about $1,669 and around S$2,793 respectively.
Wee was released on a bail of $20,000 yesterday, and is expected to return to court on 2 Nov for a pre-trial conference.
