Before Chinese New Year, you spam purchases of all kinds of goodies like there’s no tomorrow. After all, when else are you going to get the excuse to eat as much as you want, in the name of festivities? Unfortunately, you might be left with a huge pile of leftovers when Chinese New Year is over. With these tips, you won’t be wasting as many snacks as you thought.

1. Gift them away

As long as you package it well, you could send your snacks away easily. With a note of thanks or ‘Happy Chinese New Year’, snacks could be bundled into a bag and gifted to friend or family.

You could even send some to someone who’s not Chinese, to give them a taste of what the whole fuss over new year is all about! Make sure you haven’t already swiped a few piece; it wouldn’t look good to give a half eaten container of snacks.

2. Sandwich cookies

This a simple yet delightful way to use your cookies. Assuming that the cookies in question are flat enough, simply grab a pair, layer some smooth spread in between, and you’ve created your own snack!

Nutella is one popular spread that carries a strong chocolate taste, and peanut butter is another great choice if you have cookies aren’t already of the nut variety.

3. Cake base/cookie butter

Cake base is commonly used for cheesecakes, and cookie butter is a delightful edition to any desert, or even tastes great by itself. This recipe describes how you can mix the crumbled cookies with butter to make something even better. Cookies as cake base can be applied as shown here.

4. Truffles

If you haven’t tried truffles yet, now’s the time. No matter the texture of the cookie, so long as you mash it up, add condensed milk or cream (depending on how stick you need it) and keep it in its spherical shape, you can dip the orb of crushed cookies into melted chocolate.

Try this recipe for a clearer explanation, just replace the cookies in it with the ones you have.

5. Cookie crumble

What could make a snack better than snacks on top of snacks? You might be hungry for a bit of ice cream after all those CNY goodies, and you could mix both kinds of snacks without getting tired of the CNY goodies.

Cookie crumble can be easily made by filling a zip lock bag with said cookies and smashing them with a rolling pin or your bare hands. The crumbs can then be sprinkled over another snack; ice cream, pudding, anything you wish.

6. Use as spread

This tip is geared towards pineapple tarts, as they are the main snack with jam in it. Though the golden jam is harder than pineapple jam that’s freshly made.

But shoving aside the bright yellow cookie bits and molding the orbs of jam once more might allow you to use the jam as a spread. That way, you could make a breakfast sandwich with the jam and use the leftover cookie bits in one of the tips above.

So don’t dump your cookies yet, try on of the methods above! (or just eat all the CNY snacks while you still can, that works too.)
