So, you have recently graduated from a university or a polytechnic with a diploma or a degree in hand. You have a couple of job offers on the table, and you have a tough choice to make.

On one hand, you are presented with a high-paying job from a reputable corporate company, whereas on the other, you are presented with an enticing offer from a startup that is just picking up.

As much as you would want to opt for the easier route to pick up the corporate job offer with the good pay, you should perhaps think twice because joining a startup company can also present you with a myriad of opportunities – and here are the 8 benefits.

True, you might not get the ease of maneuvering through your first job with the designated workload as compared to joining a corporate company, but do you get additional experience and exposure that you will otherwise be missing out on.

However, If you do amazing work the entire company and all of its customers will benefit from it.  And you’ll be loved for it.

You will have more opportunities
In life, we should never stay stagnant and stay put within our comfort zones. When you join a startup, it offers a different type of reward – an incentive-based system that isn’t based only just on dollars, but on the skills attained and opportunities seized. The experience will outweigh the pay cut.

You help with the hiring
Other than making the big company decisions, you can also take part in the hiring process and be part of the decision to hire any potential candidate. Makes everything more fun, doesn’t it?

No politics
You will certainly be free from all the unwanted office politics because when you are in a startup company, everyone works like how a family does. You will never have to be worried about colleague A spilling nasty remarks about you to your boss, or be sabo-ed by colleague B to do an OT.

You help to shape the company’s culture
A company will be, for the most part, an extension of the founders’ personalities.  In the early stages, you’ll have a huge impact on the culture of the company as well. Make the best of it.

There will be lots of transparency
You will know where various funds went to, how they were used and you will be able to voice out any displeasures to your boss because they’re just working next to you.   You’ll get to see how the company grows, why certain decisions were made, and how the company reacts to competitors and business plan changes.

Diverse work schedule
You will not have to park yourself in the office from 9am – 5pm each day. Rather, you will get the chance to meet new investors, new clients, and each day will be completely different.

You will learn from true innovators.
People who start their own business have a different mental and professional makeup than those who have never gone off to create something of their own. These entrepreneurs are defined by seeing a problem and thinking of an innovative and original way of addressing it.
