By now, you should know about Chew Eng Han’s failed attempt to siam his jail term: it’s so high profile, even foreign media have written about it.

But if you’ve not, here’s what everything is all about.

Or you can watch Mr Brown’s video instead.

This time round, Chew isn’t going to run anywhere, because he will start his sentence for his previous offence on 1 March 2018—immediately after his remand period expires.

In other words, he’s being kept behind bars since his epic failed attempt.

He was on bail of $1 million during his escape

For his role in the misappropriation of $50 million, he has been sentenced to three years and four months, but paid a bail of $1 million and deferred his sentence to start after Chinese New Year so that he could spend time with his family.

But it turned out he wasn’t exactly doing so, because it’s reported that his escape plan occurred during the CNY period.

Allegedly paid thousands of dollars to a Malaysian to escape

According to media reports, during the CNY holidays, Chew had met up with a Malaysian, Khoo Kea Leng, to facilitate an arrangement with a boatman.

He reportedly paid thousands of dollars for that arrangement.

The transaction took place in an HDB car park in Marine Drive, between Block 75 and Block 76.

In fact, even the car park lot has been mentioned: it’s either in lot 85 or lot 86.

Not sure about you, but I’m pretty sure this weekend, there would be many people buying the numbers 7576 and 8586 #justsaying

Chew has been charged for his attempt to flee Singapore, but the sentence hasn’t been determined yet. For that offence, he could be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $2,000.

And also, his argument that he was out on a “fishing trip” is now thrown out of the window with these new evidences.

Elder brother is on bail

Chew’s elder brother, Chew Eng Soon, who is arrested in connection with his brother’s escape, is now released on police bail.

Not sure if he’s going to tattoo his body with the prison’s blueprint and do a prison break, though. #prisonbreak
