With this, most of Singapore is now officially connected to a train station.

Just look at that. It’s so confusing that even locals might be confused. Not to mention tourists.

On 21 Oct, the blue dotted lines will officially become one solid line.

The Downtown Line Singapore’s longest underground MRT line with 34 stations.

To celebrate the iconic opening, LTA announced that all train rides on DTL for 21 and 22 Oct 2017 will be free for those starting and ending their journey on the DTL.

Terms and Conditions Apply

Okay, it’s a bit weird to put this in what is essentially a national movement but hey, if it fits, it fits.

Here are a couple of things you need to take note of to enjoy the free ride.

You must tap in and out as per usual

If you’re expecting the red carpet and gantries open wide for you to walk through, think again.

You’ll tap in and out with your EZ-Link as per usual. No amount will be deducted from your card, so no worries.

Now here’s the trickier part.

For those who change to the Downtown line from other MRT lines, you can tap out of the other MRT line and tap into the Downtown line.

If not, you’ll be charged accordingly. Only the Downtown line portion of your journey will be free for the two days.

For Tampines, Newton and Bukit Panjang stations, you can tap out at any fare gate but when you tap in, it must be at Downtown line’s gantry.

Don’t worry, there’ll be signs at the three stations to guide you guys.

Other than free rides, what can you expect?

There will be an open house happening on 15 October where you can get the first look at the new stations on DTL 3.

There is also a host of activities at DTL3 stations from 10 am to 6 pm.

But to be very honest, I’m just glad that the DTL exists so people staying in Bukit Panjang and other ulu areas don’t feel so disconnected from the rest of Singapore.

Kampung spirit mah, no?
