How would you react if you hear your window grilles making a noise, and when you go investigate it, you see a half-naked man outside the window—on the twelfth storey, balancing himself on the clothing racks outside the flat and holding on to the window frame?
If this sounds like another horror movie, it isn’t: this happened early this midnight (29 June 2016) in Block 225 at Ang Mo Kio Ave 1.
According to various media reports, the owner of the flat, Mrs Lee, was shocked. She immediately woke her husband up, and even after that, the “Spiderman” was still perched outside the flat. When Mr Lee confronted him, the Spiderman apparently apologized before climbing downwards—quickly.
What a polite criminal.
Initially, Mr Lee had not wanted to call the police but was persuaded by his wife to do so. According to what he saw, he counted and realized that the Spiderman had climbed two storeys down, and then entered the tenth storey.
The SCDF deployed a safety life air pack below and when the police checked on the unit that the Spiderman had supposedly climbed in, they did not find him. Instead, they found contraband cigarettes.
The neighbours of the unit told the media that the owner has moved out and rented the unit to two young people. Strangers were spotted going into the unit in the middle of the night as well.
In a Channel NewsAsia interview, one resident shared all our sentiments: “Even if I put $10,000 in my house for you to steal, would you take the risk to climb up to my flat to take it?”
Madam Kor, you’re very right.
