This Alarm Clock Wakes You Up Earlier if There’s a Traffic Jam

Imagine this: on a Friday night, you say this to your alarm clock: “Wake me up at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow if it’s not raining—if it’s raining, let me sleep.”

And on the next day, when it rains, the alarm won’t buzz for the entire morning. If it doesn’t rain, the alarm will buzz at exactly 7:00 a.m.

Or, maybe you’ve often set your alarm clock to wake you up at 6:00 a.m. during weekdays. One Tuesday, the alarm clock buzzed at 5:30 a.m. instead—because there’s a major accident in CTE that caused a massive traffic jam, so you’ll most likely need to leave home early.

This alarm clock doesn’t exist in the year 2030—the technology is already here, and you can expect it to be in your bedroom by June 2017.

Known as the Bonjour Smart Alarm Clock, it is a Kickstarter project that aims to raise USD$50,000, but has since raised over USD$728,000. It’s no surprise that this project has over 5,500 backers—other than being able to wake you up based on conditions, it also does many other things. Just think of the alarm clock as someone who lives with you instead.

The smart clock serves as a voice control system for your home devices too; for example, you can simply turn on and off your lights if you integrate it with your smart lighting system.

It is also your personal assistant, syncing with your calendar (I’m going to presume you’re not using a print calendar nowadays, right?) and making sure that you won’t oversleep when you have a meeting.

In fact, there’re so many functions that I’ll bore you with the list of things it can do—not because the functions are useless, but there’re just too many.

And surprising, for the number of things it can do, the recommended retail price is at mere USD$249—that’s about SGD$350.

That’s cheaper than most smartphones in the market now!

By the time you’re reading this, the Kickstarter campaign should be over, but I’m pretty sure you can still pre-order it. I don’t know about you, but this could well be a life-saver for those who’re often late for appointments!
