Yesterday was the first day of mask collection and 1 million masks were already given out.
Eight out of ten masks given out yesterday was done over-the-counter.
According to reports, the 400 reusable masks vending machines really helped to lighten the workload of the People’s Association (PA).
Instead of 8,300 staff deployed for the previous round, they only deployed 4,400 staff for this round’s collection.
Vending Machine Makes Collection Fuss-Free
Here’s what you need to do to collect your free reusable mask from the vending machine.
Tap on an on-screen button and scan your Identification Card.
Yes, it’s that simple.
A housewife described it as “easier than withdrawing money from an ATM.”
However, not everyone finds it easy to use and some older folks find it hard to operate the machine.
If your parents are one of them, encourage them to pick up the masks this week as counters will be open at 109 CCs and 661 RC centres from 10am to 6pm daily.
The counters will operate until 1 June 2020.
For those worried about the cleanliness of interacting with the vending machines, they will be cleaned regularly.
All “high-touch” areas of the machine will also be coated with a self-disinfecting coating similar to those used on common lifts in HDB flats.
As for the stocks, the machines will be restocked every evening and an alert will be sent out from the machine if stocks are running low.
Nonetheless, if you’re worried about going to empty machines, you can check the maskgowhere.gov.sg website first before making your way out.

New Reusable Mask Works Better Than The Old One
A 38-year-old store assistant told ST that having the new mask means “she gets to breathe easier”.

She has to keep the mask on for about eight to ten hours every day and the old mask was uncomfortable and made it hard to breathe.
She said that she could “immediately tell the difference” the moment she put on the new mask.
According to the mask manufacturer (which sells it at $9.90 apiece online), the masks have several improvements:
- The first is added protection. The ultra mask comes with 2 layers of anti-bacterial organic cotton fabric and another layer of cooling and moisture-absorbing material.
- The anti-bacterial mask kills 99% of the bacteria and also has a bacteria filtration efficiency of 95%.
- If you have sensitive skin, you’d be happy to know that this mask (or part of it since the material used is a secret) is also made out of 100% organic cotton, so it won’t irritate your skin.
- The fabric is also more “breathable”, as it was designed for smooth airflow and comfortable breathing.
- In addition, wearing it out on a hot day won’t be a problem, because it has a quick-dry and cooling lining that reduces heat retention.
There are also child-size reusable masks available for kids below 12 years old.
Now you’ve got no more excuses not to wear a mask when you go out.
