All of us must have been to MBS at least once since it opened its doors. It was so anticipated that the topic was on everybody’s tongue while the resort was being constructed. Currently one of Singapore’s most coveted landmarks and a must-visit for all tourists, here are some interesting facts about the place that may surprise you.

MBS is the most expensive standalone integrated resort property ever built
Believe it or not, MBS is billed as the world’s most costly standalone casino property at S$8 billion. This is inclusive of the land cost.

MBS has the world’s largest atrium casino
Ever thought how big MBS’ atrium casino is? It consists of 500 tables and 1,600 slot machines. Impressed yet?

MBS has the world’s longest elevated swimming pool
With a 146 metre vanishing edge and 191 metres above the ground, the SkyPark at MBS has the world’s longest elevated swimming pool. Fancy a dip in this luxury?

The Wonder Full Show is the largest light and water show in Southeast Asia
Opened on 17 February 2011, this show incorporates some of the most advanced and latest Laservision technology ever created and represents the birth of life. The music is composed by some of Singapore’s most famous composers including Iskandar Ismail and is played by a 140-piece symphony orchestra.

iLight Marina Bay is Asia’s first and only sustainable light festival
This was not just another light event held for the sake of being held. Beautiful as it was, iLight Marina Bay actually featured 25 innovative and environmentally sustainable light art installations by creative talents from all over the world. The art pieces are incorporated recyclable materials and adopted energy-efficient technologies in a bid to adopt effective resource management.

The Art Science Museum has a sustainability feature with its lotus flower shape

Apparently, the roof of the Art Science Museum is retractable, providing a waterfall through the roof of collected rainwater when closed in the day and laser shows when opened at night.

The design of the resort was inspired by card decks
Ever looked at the walls of MBS and wondered where the design came from? According to Moshe Safdie, the designer of the resort, it was inspired by a deck of cards. Yep, you read right. Pretty fitting, don’t you think?

MBS was one of two winning proposals for Singapore’s first integrated resorts
If you read the papers religiously, you will know this. But in case you didn’t, the other was Resorts World Singapore.

There is an Art Path within the resort
Surprise, surprise! This should be news to many. Comprising of 11 large-scale art installations created by eight internationally renowned artists, these site-specific artworks extend from the 23-storey atrium in the hotel towers to the exterior of the buildings, which creates an inspiring and really beautiful path through MBS.
