All ActiveSG Outdoor & Non-Air-Conditioned Facilities Closed as Haze Worsens Nationwide

All outdoor and non-air-conditioned facilities at ActiveSG sport centres across Singapore have temporarily closed as the haze worsens.

The nationwide closure, announced on 16 October, expands earlier measures that affected only selected ActiveSG facilities. Indoor, air-conditioned facilities remain open.

Closures Now Cover All Five Regions

CNA reported that Sport Singapore issued its notice at noon, saying the precautions were intended to protect facility users as haze conditions changed.

ActiveSG’s official closure page now lists haze-related closures across the north, south, east, west and central regions, effective from 16 October until further notice.

Affected facilities include swimming complexes, stadiums, outdoor courts and some sports halls.

In the north, for example, the list includes Woodlands Stadium, Yishun Swimming Complex and Sengkang Sport Hall. Elsewhere, affected facilities include Hougang Sport Hall, Delta Swimming Complex and Clementi Sport Hall.

The inclusion of sports halls means being indoors alone does not place a facility outside the closure measures. The nationwide suspension also covers facilities without air-conditioning.

Central PSI Reaches 229, a New Annual High

The expansion comes as three regions recorded air quality in the “very unhealthy” range on 16 October.

At 3pm, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) stood at 229 in central Singapore, the highest reading recorded in Singapore this year. Both the east and west recorded 205.

The north and south remained in the “unhealthy” range, with readings of 157 and 185 respectively.

Central Singapore entered the very unhealthy band at midnight. The east and west followed at 10am, when their readings reached 202 and 201 respectively.

Separately, hourly PM2.5 readings at 3pm were in the “high” band in central and western Singapore, at 182 and 156 respectively. The other regions recorded readings between 109 and 150, in the “elevated” band.

Check Facility Updates Before Heading Out

Visitors can check the ActiveSG facilities closure page for affected locations.

ActiveSG advises checking individual sport centres’ Facebook pages for the latest announcements, as unexpected or same-day closures may not immediately appear on its main closure page.

For outdoor plans, the National Environment Agency advises checking the one-hour PM2.5 readings and accompanying guidance for immediate activities. The 24-hour PSI forecast and corresponding health advisories should be used when planning outdoor activities for the following day.
