Saying that Malaysians are obsessed with food is an understatement. Malaysians are so passionate about eating that discussing what to have for dinner even before lunch is over is a norm. In fact, a popular joke states that Malaysians only eat one meal a day; they start at breakfast and end before they go to bed (insert nervous laughter here).

Whether you’re local or just visiting, you’ll be able to find food easily at any time of the day and there are plenty of eateries open until the wee hours of the morning and even throughout the night. Some are even open 24 hours, seven days a week. Here are some of the places you can satisfy your midnight cravings when you’re in KL!

Wong Ah Wah Restaurant, Jalan Alor
Jalan Alor is really popular among tourists and is known for its Chinese styles dishes , especially the seafood. One of the highly recommended places for dining in Jalan Alor is W.A.W restaurant, famous for their grilled chicken wings, marmite pork ribs, fried oyster omelette (or-chien) and steamed tilapia fish.

Restoran Murni, PJ SS2
If you’re looking for a Mamak with a western fusion twist, Restoran Murni is the place you should head to. Portions here are extremely generous, and they serve all your usual rotis and murtabaks, as well as a wide selection western food. Try their signature mee raja and nasi goreng soft shell crabs, as well as their fruit juice mixes.

Devi’s Corner, Bangsar

Asia Café, SS15 Subang Jaya
This is one of the most famous food courts in Subang Jaya and people come here for the wide selections available, from full heavy meals to light bites. There are stalls selling western food , East Asian dishes, middle-eastern favourites and more. The grilled seafood outlets are an all-around favourite.

Yen Yen A One Restaurant
If you’re looking for some light snacks rather than a heavy meal for supper, dim sum is the answer. At this restaurant, every dim sum plate only costs RM3. Enjoy all the usual dim sum favourites like siu mai, fishballs, lor mai gai, char siu pau and more. There’s also porridge and chee cheong fun for that extra midnight carbohydrate kick!

The Port
The Port is a modern dining concept featuring Malaysian street food like keropok lekor, mee kari , pisang goreng cheese and others. There are also stalls selling western and Mexican food, so you are spoiled for choice. The food court is housed in a series of shipping containers, giving it that hipster vibe.

Donutes Coffee and Bakery
Those with a midnight sweet tooth will find their cravings satisfied at Donutes, which serve a wide array of cakes, pastries, buns, sandwiches and of course, their namesake donuts. You can also enjoy a cup of your favourite tea or coffee in a quiet corner.

Peng Hwa Teochew Porridge, Jalan Klang Lama
If you’ve been out drinking or are tired from shift work and need some easy to digest comfort food to pick you up, try some Teochew porridge at Peng Hwa. They serve plain porridge or rice which you can have with It may not be the most outstanding eatery in town, but it will fill your tummy with familiarity.
