Back in the good old days, if your parents owned a car, you will notice the arduous process of them tearing the coupon (sometimes more than once if they happen to tear the wrong tab) and placing it neatly on the dashboard.
If they failed to do so, the summon guy will neatly place the summon ticket under the window wiper.
Now, most parking fees are paid through the Electronic Parking System, but there is still a handful of car parks without this service.
Don’t worry, you won’t have to suffer through like your parents.
Now there is an app that allows you pay your parking fee—Parking.sg
1. Parking.sg
It is an easy-to-use app that allows you to pay for your parking using your credit or debit card.
2. The creators of this app
The geniuses behind the app are GovTech, URA and Housing Board. One of the many initiatives that work towards being a smart nation.
3. Some places still require coupons
As modern as Singapore is, there are still some places that you won’t be able to pay through EPS. There are 1,100 carparks all over Singapore that require coupons.
4. A big hit among people
According to The Straits Times, the app was already available for download before its launch on Oct 1. It also said that the app was downloaded between 1000 and 5000 times on the Google Play Store, alongside 29 reviews as of Sep 30, 11:40 pm.
5. Coupons are still valid
Don’t worry, if you still have some parking coupons left, you still can use them before jumping on the bandwagon.
6. Only applicable for cars
As of now, this app is only applicable to cars. For those motorcyclists, don’t fret they will be including motorcycles and heavy vehicles (lorry) by the end of the year.
7. Easy to use
All you have to do is key in your vehicle number, car park code (which can be found on the car park signboards) and your parking duration—voilah! Here is a video if you are still lost.
8. No more running back to the car park
You won’t have to worry about running back to the car park if you exceed your parking time. If you do, all you have to simply do is just use your app and extend your session remotely.
9. What if I end my session early
One of the many perks of paying your parking fees through this app is that you will get a refund if you end your session early. You will receive a refund, calculated on a per-minute basis.
10. Summon officer is still there
Don’t think you can escape just cause everything is paid through the app. It even makes tracking easier. The officer will continue to check, so make sure you activate your parking session if you’re using the app.
