When we think of “home”, we think of Kit Chan. Every national day, we sing along to her song. But do we really know her well enough? Here are some facts to fascinate you with our “national treasure” that Kit Chan is often dubbed as.
1. She looks way younger than her age
She is 45 years old this year. Time flew past so quickly, isn’t it? She still looks as youthful as ever!
2. She has other skills other than singing ‘Home’
She is really talented. Singing, theatre, television drama, poetry, song-writing, entrepreneurship and creative direction, you name it, she has it!
3. She has exceptional poetry skills
Kit Chan is also an author. Surprising, eh? Apart from having brilliant songwriting skills, her poetry skills are no exception either. She has published a collection of poems titled Cork Out of My Head and I Write in My Head, both in Taiwan and Singapore respectively back in 2000.
4. She’s a first-class student. Literally.
She is not only talented but academically inclined too. Having studied in Raffles Junior College, she was also a student in Laselle-SIA college of the Arts, graduating with first-class honours. Oh, my.
5. She has many languages under her belt
Fluent in Cantonese besides Mandarin, she is the first Singaporean singer to break into the Hong Kong Cantopop market and the Taiwanese Mandopop markets. Not to mention that her English ability is fantastic.
6. She last came out with an album in 2016
Her latest album was out in July 2016, with original songs titled “The Edge of Paradise 天堂邊緣” If you’re a fan, I would assume you’d already knew about this.
7. She has quite a huge fan base in Singapore
Speaking of fans, she has a quiet but solid fan base in Singapore, given how she is a revered star over here. Respect!
8. Youth Ambassador for NYC
Did you know Kit Chan was the first National Youth Ambassador for the National Youth Council? Yeah, I didn’t know about that either.
9. She was insulted for her singing
Kit Chan went on the Chinese reality TV show, I’m A Singer. Although she got accused by a Chinese music critic that she “can’t sing”, she has received a large number of support for her performance on the show. You go, girl!
10. She is extremely low profile
While Kit Chan is successful in her career, she tends to keep a rather low profile in her private life. Even when she got married to her boyfriend (now husband) of 13 years, she kept it a low-key wedding with eight tables of about 100 guests.
