人就是犯贱, I’m sure you will be familiar with this saying. For those who do not know, it means that we as humans are always not contented. It also usually means that we always complain about what we do not have and that the grass is always greener on the other side.
This also applies to our daily lives with us always complaining that life as a student is tough and we cannot wait to graduate. For many graduates, they realise that life as a student was indeed much better than working.
Here are some things you will definitely miss about school once you have started working.
School Holidays
As a student, the one thing that you will definitely look forward to was the school holidays. Spending time to relax and unwind after a long period of attending lessons was something you will fondly recall.
School holidays were also the time when you could travel overseas with your family and not having worry about school work.
Once you have graduated, you will definitely miss the long periods of vacation that you had during March, June, September and December. Unless you are a teacher, school holidays are something that you could only dream of now.
Sleeping
For many of us, I’m sure that besides having fun in school and attending lessons, one thing we miss about school life is getting to sleep during classes and not having to worry, besides being nagged by your teacher for doing so. If you find yourself doing this at work, you can start looking for another job liao.
Skipping school
As a student, you may sometimes find yourself not feeling well to go for lessons and all it took for you to not attend school was to get your parents to write an excuse letter for you and you will not have to go to school.
As a working adult, this is much tougher as you have a limited amount of paid leave and anything above that limit will become unpaid leave and besides that, you will have work targets to achieve and failure to do so will make you appear unproductive.
Finances
One thing you will definitely miss was the fact that you did not have to worry about your finances when you were studying.
When you were in school, most of the expenses such as school fees, transport and meals were covered by your pocket money and you would not have to worry about a single thing when it comes to money.
When you step into working life, you will realise that these expenses are not cheap and you’ll never have enough money.
Ending early/on time
I’m sure the ringing of the school bell is one of the favourite sounds from your childhood as that meant the end of lessons or the end of the school day.
One timing that was always accurate was the end of your school day.
Upon becoming a working adult, you may sometimes find yourself putting in hours after work in order to rush reports to meet your bosses’ targets and this meant you had to work OT.
Social life
One thing that made school life enjoyable for you was probably because of the friends you made and spent time with during and after school.
Being a student meant that you had time to spend with your friends to pursue your interests and one thing that every adult misses would definitely be the social life they once had as a student.
Working sometimes will force you to sacrifice your time for leisure and that means turning down gatherings with friends and family in order to complete your work.
Responsibilities
Remember the carefree days of being a student? You will definitely enjoy life when you were studying as most responsibilities were shouldered by your parents and they did it so that you could study without any worries affecting you.
Once you have ventured into working life, you will realise these responsibilities were not easy to handle and you will be appreciative of your parents doing so to ensure that you could focus on your studies.
Cheap food
If you love food, canteen food was one of the things you will fondly recall of school life and the prices you have to pay for food was surely something you will remember. Thinking back, don’t you wish that food was as cheap and affordable for you today as an adult?
Interests
While studying in school, you may have joined a CCA where you could pursue your interests and spent time bonding with your friends and enjoying activities.
Once you have started working, you will realise that time is a precious commodity and that working usually meant that you will be drained after a day’s work and you will be so tired that you only want to rest and do nothing else.
Your hobbies and interests will only be something you can do during the weekends or during any little time you have left after your work.
Worries
Back when you were a student, the only worry you had was your grades and besides that, there was nothing you had much to think about and one thing you will surely miss as an adult.
Being an adult meant you had more worries such as your work, finances and even relationships.
So much truth, right? Enjoy your time in school because you’re going to want it to come back when you’re out. Trust me on this.
