Alcohol is truly a very unique beverage.
Like how our red blood makes us all humans, once you inject yourself with sufficient amounts of alcohol, it can easily break you down as a person, regardless of your education level or position in life, into your bare being.
Unfortunately for some, that “being” involves feeling uncontrollable rage and subsequently getting violent for really silly reasons.
Drunk Lawyer Punched Taxi Driver’s Head Outside 100AM Mall Coz’ Driver was Changing Shift
On 11 December 2020, at around 7:00pm, a 47-year-old lawyer, Guo Bao Luo and his colleague had dinner at a Korean restaurant along Tanjong Pagar Road.
Within a four-hour window, Mr Guo drank multiple bottles of soju.
FYI, known for its green bottles, soju typically has between 16.8% to 53% of alcohol content by volume.
At around 11:00pm, he walked towards the 100AM mall to get a taxi ride back home.
Thumbs up for being the responsible drunk, I guess…
Luckily for him, there’s a taxi right outside the mall.
But unluckily for him, the taxi driver was about to end his shift and was only taking passengers who are going to Tampines.
The lawyer wanted to go to Joo Chiat instead.
As Joo Chiat is nowhere near Tampines, the taxi driver refused to take him.
Mr Guo was infuriated.
Had he not drunk so much and became somewhat inebriated, he might have just shrugged it off and walked just a few steps over to the next taxi to get his ride.
But nope, he felt snubbed and wanted to make a point… a violent one that is.
He walked over to the driver’s side and waited for the driver to roll down his window, before giving the taxi driver a taste of his knuckle sandwich.
After being punched, the taxi driver exited the vehicle to try to talk things out with the drunk lawyer.
The “talk” presumably turned into a heated argument at one point, since another taxi driver nearby had to come over and break them apart.
Four Weeks in Jail and a S$3,000 Fine for Punching the Taxi Driver
The taxi driver ended up with a cut on his right ear and was sent to the hospital.
Mr Guo was arrested on the spot.
He had 91mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood at that time.
The 47-year-old lawyer was subsequently charged with one count of causing intentional injury and another count of the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA).
He pleaded guilty.
As a result, he was sentenced to four weeks in jail and fined S$3,000.
