The Oldest COVID19 Patient is 103 Years Old & She Recovered in Record Time

Although the coronavirus has taken over 4,900 lives around the world, the numbers of those who have successfully recovered are a lot larger.

A total of 68,858 recoveries have been recorded worldwide, which is more than half of those who were infected with Covid-19 in the first place.

About 14,700 of these recoveries were from China, which is where the virus started.

103-Year-Old Grandmother Recovers From Coronavirus

The oldest person to beat this disease is a 103-year-old Chinese woman, who took only six days to recover fully and be discharged from the hospital.

That’s pretty impressive, considering the fact that Covid-19 tends to cause more serious symptoms in older people, especially since they may already have other pre-existing health conditions.

But not for this superwoman.

Zhang Guangfen, who was admitted to Liyuan Affiliated Hospital of Tongji Medical College in Wuhan on 1 March 2020, is a 103-year-old woman who has no underlying health conditions, aside from mild chronic bronchitis.

This makes her the oldest person to recover from the coronavirus, and rumour has it that she was an extremely pleasant patient as well.

“The grandmother loved being complimented by the nurses,” said a matron from the hospital to Chinese local media, Chutian Metropolis Daily.

“She would smile and nod every time after I told her she looked pretty.”

She Arrived in Critical Condition

A video posted by the news site shows the lady being brought out of the hospital by a group of medial workers.

When she was first admitted, she was in a highly critical condition and could not even communicate with the staff.

However, despite that, she still managed to beat the virus in merely six days.

Second-Oldest Recovery was 101 Years Old

Although Zhang is now the oldest person to have recovered from the virus, the second-place spot is taken by someone who is only two years younger than her.

A 101-year-old man known as Dai was discharged from Wuhan Third Hospital last week after recovering from the virus.

He was admitted shortly after his 101st birthday, and he was also a patient of heart failure. Just like Zhang, he only spent about a week in the hospital.

“He often talked about his 92-year-old wife. He said he needed to get better soon so he could go home and take care of her,” the matron said.

Awww. Old people are adorable.

I guess this proves that just because someone is old, it does not mean that they confirm won’t make it if they end up falling prey to the coronavirus.

Number of New Cases Declining in China

China’s Covid-19 situation has finally stabilised, with only eight new cases reported in Wuhan on Wednesday, 11 March, compared to the thousands of new cases that they used to have per day.

However, despite the good news for China, the rest of the world is still struggling to battle the virus, especially in countries like Italy, Iran and South Korea.

According to a Chinese respiratory specialist, Zhong Nanshan, the global Covid-19 pandemic could be brought under control by June if more countries acted like China and how they dealt with the virus.
