Youngest S’porean, a 23YO, Died from COVID-19 After Record 15 Deaths Reported on 14 Oct

Younger people tend to take fewer precautions when it comes to COVID-19 due to statistics that show elderly patients are more at risk of severe illness and death.

But if the COVID-19 pandemic has shown one thing, it’s that we can’t make any sweeping statements about the disease.

We thought it couldn’t get more infections, and then the Delta variant emerged.

We thought vaccines would put an end to the pandemic, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

Now, we have evidence that it’s not just the elderly who are at risk with this disease, especially if not fully vaccinated.

15 COVID-19 Death Include 23YO Who is Youngest COVID-19 Fatality in Singapore

15 more COVID-19 cases succumbed to the disease, bringing our death toll to 207.

It included the youngest COVID-19 fatality in Singapore – a 23-year-old individual.

The 23-year-old had been partially vaccinated but suffered from multiple underlying medical conditions, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

Another young COVID-19 patient, aged 34, also passed away from the virus. The individual was unvaccinated and suffered multiple underlying conditions too.

The other 13 individuals who passed away were aged between 60 and 89. Of these, 8 were unvaccinated against COVID-19, and 5 were fully vaccinated. All of them had various underlying medical conditions.

Of the 15 fatalities, eight were male Singaporeans, and seven were female Singaporeans.

2,932 New COVID-19 Cases 

Cases dropped slightly yesterday (14 Oct), as 2,932 new infections were reported.

The cases were made up of 2,412 in the community, 517 in migrant worker dormitories, and three imported cases.

Among the local cases are 553 seniors above the age of 60.

New Clusters at Two Nursing Homes & Preschool

Three new large clusters are being monitored by MOH, namely two at nursing homes and one at a preschool.

The two nursing homes – Acacia Home and St. Andrew’s Nursing Home (Taman Jurong) – have 11 cases each.

At Acacia Home, nine residents and two staff members have been infected, while ten residents and one employee contracted COVID-19 at St. Andrew’s Nursing Home.

The other cluster is at MY World Preschool @ Hougang Dewcourt, a preschool in Hougang. It currently has 12 cases, comprising three employees, seven students, and two household contacts of cases.

1,511 COVID-19 Cases in Hospitals; 46 in ICU

At the moment, there are 1,511 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.

310 severe cases require oxygen supplementation and 46 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

In addition, there are 16,723 cases undergoing home recovery, 2,823 in community care facilities, and 438 in COVID-19 treatment facilities.

Of those who have passed away over the last 28 days, 24.8% were fully vaccinated and 75.2% were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

As of Monday, 84% of our population has been fully vaccinated. 85% have received at least one dose.
