3,348 COVID-19 Cases Reported on 16 Oct With 9 New Deaths

It seems like ever since Singapore has announced the pandemic to be endemic, we can’t seem to catch a break.

Despite the frustration in all of us, we can only adapt to this new normal where masking up, distancing yourself and sanitising your body is important to keep your life.

3,348 New COVID-19 Cases Reported on 16 Oct

3,348 new COVID-19 cases were reported on 16 Oct, a decrease from the 3,445 reported on 15 Oct.

The new cases comprise 2,688 infections in the community, 656 in migrant worker dormitories, and four are imported cases.

Among the local cases are 475 seniors above 60.

9 New COVID-19 Fatalities

Nine more COVID-19 cases died from complications from the virus, bringing Singapore’s death toll to 224.

All of the fatalities were Singaporean of which there were four men and five women. They were aged between 60 and 89. Five of them were unvaccinated, two were partially vaccinated and two were vaccinated.

Eight of them had various underlying medical conditions, while one unvaccinated case had no known medical conditions.

2 Active Clusters

There are two active clusters that are closely monitored by MOH.

One of the clusters is a nursing home in Buangkok while the other is a nursing home in Toa Payoh:

  • ECON Medicare Centre & Nursing Home (10 Buangkok View Block 5) – 59 cases in total with two new cases
  • United Medicare Centre – 123 cases in total with four new cases

ECON Medicare Centre & Nursing Home cluster consists of three staff members and 56 residents while the United Medicare Centre cluster consists of 17 staff members, 105 residents and one household member.

1,464 COVID-19 Cases in Hospital; 62 in ICU

At the moment, there are 1,464 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.

310 severe cases require oxygen supplementation and 62 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

In addition, there are 16,580 cases undergoing home recovery, 2,862 in community care facilities, and 766 are in COVID-19 treatment facilities.

As of 15 Oct, 84% of our population has been fully vaccinated. 85% have received at least one dose.

Latest Update Shows That Only 0.006% of People Taking mRNA Vaccines in S’pore Have Serious Adverse Events

As of 30 Sep, 0.14% of the administered doses had suspected adverse events (AEs) report. 581 reports out of 12,589 suspected AEs report were categorised as serious AEs.

Most of these cases were reported by people that were 60-years-old and under and 67% of these cases were women.
