There is always traffic congestion at Woodlands Checkpoint and Tuas Second Link.
On the rainy morning of Monday (17 Oct), however, it was particular as thousands of motorists were stuck in a huge jam from Johor Bahru to Singapore along Tuas Second Link.
Reportedly, some motorists were trapped in traffic for four hours before they managed to reach Singapore.
Since it was a weekday, the road was already packed with vehicles at 6:05am. The estimated time needed to get into Singapore was 80 to 115 minutes.
Traffic conditions continued to worsen as the time needed to reach Singapore rose up to 105 to 160 minutes by 8am.
For the next two hours, the traffic jam did not let up.
Worse, the rain continued to pour down on the motorists.
Reason For The Traffic Jam
According to some motorists’ accounts on Oriental Daily, they assumed that there were some technical issues at the Singapore checkpoint.
Most motorcyclists took upwards of three hours to clear the customs, while cars took around four hours.
As a result, many took to Facebook to complain, with one user even blaming Singapore’s fingerprint immigration clearance for its low and poor quality.
The commenters below this Facebook post were quick to point out that a lot of travellers go through the Singapore customs to get to work daily, so it would not be surprising if a technical issue pops up.
In response to these claims, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) stated that there were no technical errors on the morning of 17 Oct.
Rather, it is more likely that the traffic congestion at Tuas Second Link was particularly bad that day due to the rain.
