A 21-year-old man has been charged with voluntarily causing hurt to his 41-year-old father this morning (11 May).
Prasanth Saravanan had attacked his father with a “sharp instrument” and left stab wounds on him. He had been taken to the hospital while conscious but suffered multiple injuries.
According to CNA, the police were alerted to the case at around 11:20pm on Monday (10 May), along Commonwealth Avenue West, at a pavement between Blocks 26 and 27 at Ghim Moh Link.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) noted that the two supposedly had a dispute before the incident.
Prasanth had left the scene before the police arrived. However, with the aid of images from police cameras and through ground enquiries, officers from the Clementi Police Division and Jurong Police Division were able to arrest the man four hours after the crime had been reported.
The court heard that the young man has pending charges for fraud and had previously been arrested for failing to attend court for breach of home leave under the prison’s mandatory care scheme.
No bail was offered to him.
For voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means, Prasanth could face up to seven years’ jail, fined, caned or a combination of such punishments.
FDW Who Stabbed Employer More Than 90 Times Jailed
On 23 April 2021, the High Court convicted Daryati, an Indonesian domestic helper, of murdering her employer, Madam Seow Kim Choo, and sentenced her to life imprisonment.
The 28-year-old helper started working for Madam Seow and her family at their Telok Kurau house on 13 April 2016.
She said she was treated well, but grew homesick and missed her lover Indah, who was working in Hong Kong as a domestic helper.
Less than two months after starting work, Daryati requested to return home because she was worried about her family, who couldn’t be contacted.
But Madam Seow didn’t give in to the request, which angered Daryati.
So, she concocted a plan to retrieve her passport, which was kept in a locked safe in the master bedroom.
She also planned to steal money from Madam Seow so she could start a business when she returned to Indonesia.
Daryati prepared for the confrontation by sharpening one knife and hiding another in a basket under the sink of a toilet.
She later took a long knife from the storeroom before confronting Madam Seow. She first slit and stabbed Madam Seow’s neck, leaving her to bleed out on the toilet floor. She then retrieved the knife she had hidden earlier and continued stabbing the 59-year-old.
Daryati reportedly used so much force that at least three of the blows caused fractures to the victim’s face.
She later attacked Madam Seow’s husband, Mr Ong, when he entered the room, slashing his neck, but fortunately for him, he survived.
Daryati originally faced a charge for killing with the intention to cause death—which carries the mandatory death penalty—but her charge was later reduced. After her sentencing of life imprisonment, the prosecution withdrew a stood-down charge of attempted murder of Mr Ong Thiam Soon, Madam Seow’s husband.
