“Being a social media influencer is not a real job”.
You’ve probably heard some version of the above statement in the past decade, ever since social media marketing has emerged as a legitimate source of revenue.
The only problem with this statement is that unless lexicographers recently changed the meaning of the word job, being a social media influencer is a real job, because they get paid.
Here’s a video we’ve done about “real jobs” (also, please subscribe to our YouTube channel so that…our boss can buy a Toyota?):
If you’re still unconvinced, maybe Naomi Neo’s new car might change your mind.
24-YO S’porean Influencer Bought a Lamborghini With Her Online Earnings
Naomi Neo, a Singaporean blogger and social media influencer, managed to buy her dream car with her online earnings.
The influencer shared a video on her YouTube channel where she documents the events leading up to the purchase of her second car, the Lamborghini Huracan.
The video starts out with Neo surprising her 2-year-old son Ky with the Huracan, and lets him sit in the front sit for a bit.
Struggling to contain my jealousy at the fact that a 2-year-old has sat in a Lamborghini before me.
Neo then heads to the workshop with her husband and family where her new car has been sitting for a few days getting “dolled up”.
And once they get inside, they see the shy Huracan hiding under a black cover, which only heightens the suspense.
Neo pulls off the black cover to reveal a gleaming purple and black Huracan, which is so beautiful that Neo declares she’s “remarrying”.
When Neo’s husband asks her if she loves the car or him more, Neo jokingly replies “the car lah”.
Then Neo takes her pricey new purchase out for a spin.
Dreamt About This Car For a Long Time
Towards the end of the video, Neo opens up to her audience and gets emotional as she recounts her journey as a social media influencer and how her perseverance has enabled her to achieve her dreams.
She says that she has always dreamt about purchasing a Lamborghini Huracan, and even shared an Instagram post from 2016 as proof.
The 24-year-old said that when she bought her first car, a Mercedes, she viewed it as a “huge achievement” and felt that it was the “furthest she could go in life.”
And with the pressures of being a mother taking a toll on her mental and physical health, Neo said that she felt like giving up at times.
“It was just too much for me to handle”, she said.
But the support of her fans and her loved ones encouraged her to keep going.
Now, Neo is 24 and she’s made the second-biggest purchase of her life.
Bought Both Cars With Her Own Money
Neo emphasised that she purchased both cars with her own hard-earned money, with no help from her parents or husband, she said.
At the end, Neo said that the reason she was able to make her dream purchase is that she always believed in herself, even if nobody else did.
“People can continue to discredit me for all they want because they don’t know what I’ve been through behind this life I choose to portray in front of the camera”.
“But I myself should never ever discredit myself”, she said, adding that if she allowed the negativity to get to her, she wouldn’t be sitting in her dream car right now.
She also urged her fans, especially mothers, to pursue their dreams, even if they’re met with resistance from those around them.
She encouraged mothers to try new things, such as taking a full-time job or starting a business, and hoped that her new purchase would serve as motivation for them.
Whether you’re a fan of Neo or not, you have to admit that it’s quite a feat to purchase such an expensive car at such a young age.
