In the past few years, NUS’s reputation has been tainted by a worrying number of sexual offenders.
When I told my friends that I would be matriculating into NUS next year, and would be staying in one of the Residential Colleges (RC), a common joke (like seriously) I received was something like this:

Eh not bad bro. I always knew your potential in life was to be a sexual offender.
Several events led to this dark reputation for the university.
The infamous Monica Baey incident set off a cascade of public anger towards NUS and their lax punishments against offenders.
Further uproar was created when NUS Student Terrence Siow was not given a jail term but probation due to his ‘potential to excel in life’.
With the numerous infamous cases of sexual harassment, you would think aspiring perverts would stop trying to commit sexual crimes.
But no, they just have to do it.
Yup, some pervert did it again.
Photographed Female Students In Shower
An NUS undergraduate has been caught and charged with trespassing into a female toilet and taking photos of 2 female students while they were showering.

25-year-old Ryan You Jun Chao will be pleading guilty to a total of four charges on January 2020 next year.
The student allegedly committed this act twice at a residential college. The first was on February 14, 2019, at around 7:15am, and the second incident on March 5, 2019, at approximately 2:15am.

He used his phone to sneakily capture photos of the women showering in both cases.
This was not what Apple intended for its amazing camera lens to do…

The names of the female students and residential college cannot be revealed due to a gag order by the court.
If convicted of criminal trespass, Chao could be jailed for up to three months, fined up to S$1,500, or both. He would be jailed for up to another year or fined, or both if he is also convicted of insulting a woman’s modesty.
Punishment
NUS has stated that they have zero tolerance for any kind of sexual misconduct on campus by students.
It has currently suspended Chao, and has deferred his graduation.
A “no-contact” order has been imposed on Chao, and he is not allowed to contact the victims at all.

All disciplinary actions will be reflected in his official graduation transcript.
