As of 12 noon on 27 Jun, the Ministry of Health preliminarily reports 291 new Covid-19 cases.

There are 11 cases in the community: 5 Singaporeans/PRs and 6 work pass holders.

Foreign workers staying in dormitories make up the vast majority of the numbers.

With today’s cases, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore has increased to 43,246.

Remember how experts in Singapore were worried about people mingling together in Phase Two?

They were like worried parents, scared that something bad would happen.

I guess this would be like their worst nightmares coming true:

A New COVID-19 Case Has Met a Large Group for Sports & Social Activities; MOH Investigating

On 27 Jun, it was reported that one of the community cases had met up with a large group for sports and social activity.

While not much is revealed about the case, the Ministry of Health (MOH) did say that it is investigating the incident.

“We advise the public to abide by the spirit of the rule to limit social gatherings to not more than five persons.”

I guess we’re might hear about a repeat of Robertson Quay soon.

Spirit Of The Rule

If you’re wondering what “spirit of the rule” means, it basically means that you understand what the law is trying to do and follow along with it.

For example:

Law: You can only gather in a group with a maximum of 5 people during Phase Two.

I’m not meeting with 9 other friends. We are two groups of five.

It’s like only studying when your parents are watching, and watching Netflix the moment they’re in the living room.

It doesn’t work.

Because the virus doesn’t care about what you say, it only cares about what you do.

So when you anyhowly meet up with many many people, the virus is only going to care that it can go to many many people too.

If people were to continue mingling like no tomorrow, the experts say, there’s a chance that social restrictions might be slammed back into place.

That’s chim talk for: Let’s stay home and not meet our girlfriend or boyfriend for the next two months.

And I’m pretty sure none of us wants that.
