Ngee Ann Polytechnic is one of the few campus with the best and cheap food, even students from SIM will gladly make their way there to eat! And SIM might be small and the food not as cheap, but what it lacks in the pricing department, it more than make up in tastiness. What are your favorite dishes from SIM or NP? Here are our 5 best foods in SIM and NP that even alumni would go back for – because cheap and great!

Vegetarian store (SIM food court)
Remember the long never-ending queues at the Vegetarian store in SIM food court? Well, it’s not exactly cheap but the salad is soooo good! No, this is not the extremely healthy salad that you do not get fat from, this customizable salad allows you to choose your preference of pasta or baked potatoes. The cheese pasta is the popular option with Japanese sesame sauce to go with all the veggie goodness. You can also opt for a side of scrambled eggs with a minimal top up.

Tom Yum Slice Fish Beehoon (SIM food court)
The noodle store which sells Ban Mian is famous for their hand made noodles (of course!). They also sell sliced fish beehoon and you can opt to go for Tom Yum soup when you’re sick of the usual ban mian and craving a little hot and spicier. This combination is perfect for cold weather especially when you face the freezing lecture halls.

Western Food (NP Henry Western @ Poolside)
Priced at $4.90, you’ll be able to get a satisfying portion of chicken chop with fries and salad or spaghetti. The succulent chicken is tender and nicely cooked, with a side of mashed potato or fries to choose from. Western food can be found anywhere but with this portion, you’ll have to pay up to $7 elsewhere!

Grilled Skewers with Rice (NP Makan Place)
Yakitori might seem like an interesting option for lunch in a school but this Yakitori store, Yakiya, sells a selection of grilled meats, seafood and vegetables. They even serve glazed chicken wings in a sweet savory sauce.

Baked Curry Chicken Cutlet Rice (NP Makan Place)
This set of baked curry chicken rice costs only $3.30 and the portion is perfect. You could also add a hotdog for 50cents if you’re a meat person and have a nice satisfying meal. The curry is not as spicy as it looks and the overall taste is just awesome!
