261 New Covid-19 Cases in S’pore Today (5 Jun); Low Number Due To Lesser Swab Tests

Yesterday, we had 15 Covid-19 cases in the community.

How about today?

Well, apparently, it has decreased slightly.

On 5 June 2020, the Ministry of Health (MOH) reports 261 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore.

11 of them are community cases: six are Singaporeans/PRs while the remaining five are work pass holders.

Of the 11 cases, six are linked to past Covid-19 cases and have already been placed on quarantine while one is linked to a dormitory cluster. The remaining cases are still under epidemiological investigations.

Migrant workers with links to existing clusters make up the rest of the cases.

With this, the total number of cases in Singapore has been brought up to 37,183.

By the way, if you’re looking at the figures and going, hey, that’s a lot lesser than yesterday’s number, it’s not because a miracle happened.

It’s because MOH had conducted fewer swab tests today. They did not elaborate on the reason why.

Minister: Testing & Screening of Migrant Workers Might Last Till September 2020

If you’ve been looking at the dormitory numbers, it seems like they’ll remain in the hundreds forever.

But will they? Probably not.

So when will it end?

Health Minister Gam Kim Yong said on Thursday (4 June) that the screenings may take up to August or September to complete, as they have to be carried out “systematically and carefully”.

However, it’s not all bad news.

Around 40,000 workers have been cured and/or cleared of the infection so far, according to Minister of Manpower Josephine Teo.

12,000 workers had been moved out of the dormitories to live in short-term accommodations while 8,000 had been tested negative or have recovered.

The remaining 20,000 had also recovered and been rehoused at temporary sites.

Once the workers have been cleared through the processes, they will be able to return to work, ensuring a safe and smooth journey into reopening our economy.

And resuming their normal lives.

While many businesses in Singapore are struggling to survive and being prudent in the way they spend their money, Shake Shack decides to give Covid-19 the middle finger by opening a new outlet at Orchard Road.

The outlet will be ready to open in the 3rd quarter of this year, which means by September 2020, we don’t have to make our way to the far end of Singapore to have the iconic burger anymore.

Hopefully, by then, we’re well into Phase Two and maybe, just maybe, hearing about when Phase Three will come.
