Protected: EWL MRT Disruption Extended for 6th Day Due to New Cracks

Attention all West-siders: If you were hoping to finally take the MRT to work this week, brace yourselves for another day of Grab rides and emptier wallets. SMRT has just announced that the East-West Line (EWL) MRT disruption will be extended for yet another day, marking the sixth day of this public transport nightmare. And if you're anything like me, your GrabPay wallet is probably begging for mercy and pleading with you to top up more money. Again. 12 New Cracks Discovered During Testing On Saturday (28 September), SMRT gave us a glimmer of hope when they announced that restoration works for the EWL MRT tracks were completed. They were proceeding with testing to ensure the tracks' safety, and we all held our breath, waiting for the green light to hop back on the green-line train. But alas, our expectations were shattered like the cracks on the MRT tracks. On Sunday (29 September), SMRT dropped another bombshell: the EWL MRT disruption would be extended for another day due to the discovery of 12 new cracks during the testing process. Image: Facebook (SMRT) "There will be no train services from Jurong East to Buona Vista stations on 30 Sep (Mon). We are working towards restoration of train services on 1 Oct (Tue), subject to weather conditions and after thorough testing have been successfully completed to ensure safety of commuters," the public transport operator shared. But wait, didn't they just fix the tracks? How did these new cracks appear? The Culprit: The OG Faulty Train As it turns out, the 12 new cracks were caused by the same faulty train that started this whole MRT disruption fiasco in the first place. You know, the one that was travelling back to the Ulu Pandan Depot and decided to wreak havoc on the tracks? These cracks were not visible before, but SMRT's load testing has now brought them to light. Ten Rail Segments to be Replaced To deal with these newly discovered cracks, SMRT and LTA engineers will be replacing not one, not two, but ten rail segments along the section of westbound tracks from Clementi to Ulu Pandan Depot. And of course, more testing will follow to ensure safety and rail integrity. Because apparently, we can never be too careful when it comes to our beloved MRT system. "Commuter safety is our topmost priority. We will carry out rigorous checks and tests, and ensure strict safety requirements are met before resuming full passenger service. We seek commuters' kind understanding and patience while our workers do their best to safely resume service as soon as we can," SMRT said in their Facebook post.
