Even if you rarely watch Channel 8 dramas, you’ll have seen her on-screen before. After all, she’s in Mightiest Mother-in-law, a channel 8 drama that rekindled our hope for Singapore dramas again. And before that, she was in Hero whereby she played a materialistic woman. Yep, I’m talking about Paige Chua.
She has been in showbiz since 2008 and had a breakthrough role in the TV drama Hero where she was nominated as the Best Supporting Actress in the 2017 Stars Award. It’s no surprise because if you’ve watched the drama, you’ll know she deserves it.
Here are 6 facts about Paige Chua, the new Ah Jie of Caldecott Hill.
1. She was a national netball player
Before she was an actress, she went to school. Okay, that’s a duh, no shit thing I just wrote.
When she was in school, she played netball. She was so good she actually represented Singapore in the sport as part of the Youth National Netball Team from 1997-99.
2. She was shy and introverted when she was young
Paige Chua mentioned that acting was something she never thought she’ll go into when she was young. She said that she was a shy and introverted person when she was young.
You really can’t tell from the role she played in Hero, eh?
3. She was a model before becoming an actress
It was modelling that helped her to have more resilience towards interacting with strangers and totally changed her life.
She was discovered at a basic modelling class which launched her 4-year modelling career. That was before she made her television debut on TV in 2008 and was nominated as Best Supporting Actress at Star Awards in 2010.
4. She’s a regular person and has both flaws and merits
In the interview with SayangSabah.com with Terence Cao, she mentioned that she gets uncomfortable when people think she’s like how she portrays herself on screen.
Especially when her role on screen is perfect and larger than life.
She wanted people to know that just like any other regular person on the street, she is an ordinary person with both merits and flaws.
5. She isn’t afraid to go after what she wants in life
In 2015, Paige Chua was asked if she’ll say “yes” if her boyfriend proposed to her. At that time, she was together with her boyfriend for twelve years.
And while she loves children, she knows she can’t commit the time needed to them so she won’t make some.
Her reply was, “thanks but not yet”. She mentioned that if she chose to settle down, it’s because she made her choice and not due to pressure.
Whether boyfriend, family or friends, she won’t give in.
She still wants to work hard in her career and make something out of it before she leaves. She still wants to travel.
Given her transformation throughout these 2 years, I think we can all agree she has made a few breakthroughs in her career. No?

For Paige Chua, pottery has proven to be the ideal diversion from the hectic pace of contemporary life.
What started as a casual experiment quickly became into a cherished pastime, providing her with a haven where she could let her imagination run wild and find comfort in the art of clay.
She started doing it as a hobby in 2019 while she was filming in Ipoh.
