6YO Boy Rushed To The Hospital With All of His Savings To Save A Chick He Accidentally Ran Over

Just when we thought children couldn’t get any more precious, a 6-year-old boy captured the hearts of many.

An Accident

Derek C Lalchhanhima, who resides in Sairang, India, accidentally ran over his neighbour’s chick while cycling. Instead of leaving it there to die, the boy quickly rushed to the hospital with the chick.

And the best-est of all?

He gathered all his savings to pay for the hospital fee.

Precious.

Prior to this, the boy actually returned home with the body of the bird and told his father about the incident. He begged his parents to bring it to the hospital, but his father had told him to bring it to the hospital on his own.

Unfortunately, the chick had already passed away by then.

A photo of him taken at the hospital has since gone viral after being uploaded to FaceBook. It was uploaded along with the caption “As per Reports: This young boy from Sairang, Mizoram, accidentally ran over his neighbour’s chicken. He took the chicken, ran to a nearby hospital and with all the money he had, asked for help. (I’m laughing and crying all at the same time)” by user Sanga Says.

The post currently has 12k comments and 93k shares.

Netizens all reacted positively to this boy’s innocence and compassion.

Honoured for act

Every hero has his own setback, the chick passing away being Derek’s. However, he was honoured by his school for his act of kindness.

The caption uploaded along with the photo was:

I guess by now you all know who this adorable kid is.

Derek C Lalchhanhima (age 6) is being honoured by his school and he is draped in a shawl which is a traditional way of honouring someone among Mizos.

In Mizo tradition, different types of shawls are usually presented to esteemed guests and in olden days, to pasalțha (braves or warriors) who have accomplished great feats.

The shawl that is draped on him looks like a modified version of the “Tawlhloh Puan”, an honour given to those who have exemplified extraordinary courage.

His father was also surprised by his son and did not expect him to gain so much attention. He also acknowledged that his son was unique.

In all honesty, though, he owes it to his father for giving him the push he needed to bring the chick to the hospital alone.

A Role Model

Although what he did may have been a small act of kindness, he certainly has set a good example for kids out there to be kind towards others. It really is amazing how the child’s mind works.

While this boy has the internet crying over how cute he is, there are indeed a few takeaways from this.

  1. Be kind to others. If a 6-year-old kid can do it, so can you.
  2. Help the people around you. Don’t be a bystander. Yes, he wasn’t a bystander and there may have not been any bystanders in this case. (But this is just a general reminder for you to help whenever you can.)
  3. Be compassionate.

BTW, Karma always comes back.

And please, don’t save a chick just to humblebrag online. It doesn’t work that way.
