7 things you must definitely buy from Thailand’s 7-Eleven

There’s two places I love checking out when I’m out of the country and in another. McDonald’s and 7-Elevens. I dive into these two places, and I want to know what sets them apart from the same outlets back home.

I was in Thailand recently, and I have to say that their take on 7-Eleven has a good measure of sass in it. Allow me to introduce the 7 things that you have to purchase from their outlets while you’re on a visit.

Good Ole Beer

Chang is one of the best brews I’ve had, and it only comes second to a can of San Miguel. You’d need to take note of the alcohol selling hours though. The outlet is not allowed to sell alcohol between 2pm to 5pm, and before 11 in the morning. I’m taking a wild guess here and say that the afternoon ban is because no one should have beer with lunch.

Buns and Bread

They’ve got some pretty interesting offerings here. You can get a loaf of taro-flavored bread, and even purchase ham off a rack to go with your wholemeal fix. If you’re ever out and in need of a bite, 7-Eleven has got you covered.

Of Snacks and Nuts

I bought several packs of santan (coconut cream) flavoured peanuts. I might have a withdrawal episode when I’ve finished all of them.

Grilled Sandwiches To-Go

The outlet has its very own make of a cheese sausage sandwich. There’s even grilling services. Buy the sandwich, get it grilled right after you pay and dig in.

The Perfect Slurpee-Iced Coffee Marriage

Never would I have imagined a better combination. Make sure you get every baht out of your cup by tapping the cup onto the counter when it’s full, and topping your cup with more slurpee.

Green Curry Noodles by Mama Mia

This is not your usual cup of instant noodles. The soup sachet has its powdered contents riddled with vegetables and herbs. It comes with another sachet of paste. The noodles are springy and flavorful. The broth is creamy with a dash of heat to it. I’d give it a 4 out of a 5.

Local Necessities

As I was travelling around, I found that I needed a rain poncho and a mosquito spray. I dropped by into the outlet near my hotel and was glad to find it there. No need for mad dashes to a supermarket just to get the same items.
