Can you beat your grandmother in an arm-wrestling contest? Yes? Well here is a grandma you definitely won’t be able to beat.
This 75-year-old grandmother from South Korea called Lim Jong-So just took the first-runner-up trophy home from a bodybuilding contest.
Now, as you tremble with shock and wonder if we’ve made a typo, you can feast your eyes on how good she looks in a bikini.
Why She Started Lifting
Jong-So only started lifting in May 2018 when she was diagnosed with spinal stenosis which was a chronic back condition that the doctors could not treat.
According to Koreaboo, this condition also resulted in reduced mobility in her right leg.
To improve her strength and to distract herself from the chronic pain, Jong-So decided to take up weight training.
She trained with her personal trainer, Park Yong-In, thrice a week and soon, she realised that her health was improving and her leg wasn’t even hurting anymore.
Exercise always works wonders.
Paiseh To Wear A Bikini
When asked to consider bodybuilding, Jong-So was originally a bit hesitant because of her age.
However, with a push from her encouraging trainer who wanted her to have a good time, she decided to give it a try.
One of the reasons she had reservations about the sport was because of the attire which was a bikini.
“I couldn’t fathom wearing it” said Jong-So.
We can totally understand though, because it really takes confidence to pull off a bikini.
In the end, although she was nervous during her very first body-building competition, Jong-So enjoyed herself greatly and wanted to do it again.
This brings us to this competition, where she took place in the senior category which is the category for people aged 38 and above.
Despite being one of the oldest competitors, she took out competitors who were almost half her age to place second.
An Inspiration For All
Jong-So also shared some extremely meaningful advice stating that everyone has dreams and one shouldn’t give up on one’s dreams just because of old age because that will make life meaningless.
Jong-So believes that by constantly challenging yourself to your dreams regardless of age, that will help you live a great life in all your remaining time on earth.
While Jong-So wasn’t able to compete in something like this back in her younger days because of how patriarchal the society she grew up in was, she is happy that she is able to now and she hopes to continue doing this for as long as she can.
Jong-So adds that she will continue to work out at least until she is 80 years old, proving to be an inspiration to all.
Okay, after reading this article, we got no more excuses. If even this 75-year-old grandmother can get in shape, I guess the rest of us can do it too.
