8 Facts About Captain Marvel ‘Coz the Trailer is Lit

Rejoice, my fellow Avengers fans, for your salvation’s finally here. Yes, I’m talking about the one and only, ever-charismatic and arguably strongest captain ever…

Captain Planet.

Captain Marvel.

But when exactly is the film releasing? Who’re all the cast members? And why is the lead actress looking so darn bitchy all the time (in the trailer)? Is she Captain America’s love interest?

Well, we explore almost all of that in the points down below.

1. Film Synopsis

Like any good movie write-up, there’ll be a film synopsis.

So enjoy this little snippet that has totally nothing to do with us:

The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Carol Danvers, the last Woodbender. 😉

So yes, Captain America, Captain Planet and even Captain Yoo aren’t related to this chiobu.

And of course, it’s set in the 1990s, so it won’t be full of ashes (geddit?).

2. Trailer

And like any good movie write-up, the trailer’s included for your purveyance.

Which is kind of ‘meh’ to me, but hey it does have 37m views the last time I checked, so… go figure.

However, it’s interesting how Brie Larson, who’s playing the titular character, has a resting bitch face on even in the trailer thumbnail.

Is it a mere coincidence, or is it all planned out?

3. Release Date

Created on a budget of $152 million, the film’s slated for an initial release on 8 March 2019. However, it had actually been scheduled for release on 6 July 2018, before having its release date postponed to accommodate blockbuster films Spider-Man: Homecoming and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Tch.

Incidentally, the film will be the twenty-first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and the last stand-alone superhero film before Phase Three of the MCU conclude (the last film is the next Avengers movie).

And it doesn’t take a genius to know that she’s going to be featured quite often in Phase Four, while favourites like Tony Stark or Thor would be drinking kopi in the background.

4. Cast Members

A movie could have all the budget, production equipment and manpower in the world, but if the cast members can’t live up to the hype everything’s going to waste anyway.

Thankfully, it seems that that’s not the case. But then hey, it’s Marvel. Since when have they disappointed us?

  • Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel

The award-winning actress, who has starred in films such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Kong: Skull Island, will be all set to portray the titular character that might just be the key to Avengers 5.

  • Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury

Of course, the dude’s gonna have to reprise his role. Nobody else could possibly do Nick Fury, even if it meant having to digitally edit his age to fit the role. Not sure how he’ll look as a young dude, but anyways.

  • Ben Mendelsohn as Talos
  • Djimon Hounsou as Korath
  • Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser
  • Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau
  • Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva
  • Algenis Pérez Soto as Att-Lass
  • Rune Temte as Bron-Char
  • Mckenna Grace as young Carol Danvers
  • Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson

Much like Samuel L. Jackson, Gregg’ll be undergoing some digital expertise to look more ‘appropriate’ for his time-induced role. I hope this kind of technology exists in real life.

  • Jude Law as Mar-Vell / Walter Lawson

Captain Gaston? Or is it dumblydoreeee.

5. Score

Set in the mid-1990s, it seems that the timeline’s not the only relic here, as the film’s soundtrack is all set to include songs from the 1990s.

Retro vibes, anybody?

Meanwhile, Pinar Toprak will serve as the film composer, making her the first woman to score an MCU film.

6. Storyline

According to the all-time greatest reference site ever WikipediaCaptain Marvel’s story will take elements from the 1971 “Kree-Skull War” comic book storyline.

7. No Netflix & Chill

Despair, my Netflix-addicted friends, for Captain Marvel will be the first Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures-distributed film not to stream on the popular streaming service. This comes after Disney decided to just let their licensing deal with Disney expire.

… much cri veri sad.

However, if there’s any consolation, Disney has intentions to release the movie on their own streaming service.

So rest assured, ma streaming addicted fiends.

And if you wonder what I’m smoking, you must be one without a Netflix subscriptions. Yeah, Marvel movies (a few of them) are in Netflix. Seriously.

8. WW Heights?

Lest I’ve not mentioned yet, Captain Marvel’s set to be the studio’s first female-led superhero film. Yes, folks, Wonder Woman isn’t actually Marvel’s product.

But here’s a mention: Wonder Woman, despite belonging to the DC universe, was no doubt a huge box office success. Which kind of makes you wonder how Marvel will fare in its own female department. Sure, the acclaimed studio might’ve churned out blockbuster after blockbuster, with the ratings and revenue to match, but from the looks of it so far…

It would seem that Captain Marvel might have just bombed. On the front end.

Plus, if comparisons to DC’s charismatic female superhero were to be believed…

Captain Marvel might not actually be so… terrific after all.

But hey, given Marvel’s track record, I think it’s fine to give them the benefit of the doubt. Cos you never know.

It might just turn out to be your favourite movie of all time instead.
