What the hell is a Green Party?

Rumours have it that shopping malls have become part of our history.

Need to shop? There’s Shopee. Need to makan? There’s GrabFood. Need a movie? Netflix is just a tap away.

Another rumour is that shopping malls have become showrooms for people to window shop so that they know what to buy online.

So if you’re a millennial who lives in Instagram or Telegram, you might be surprised to know that The Green Party is now everywhere:

And when you walk past Green Party, you’d overhear two kinds of conversation.

Conversation A by a lady: “OMG, that is so cute, let’s go in and have a look!”

Conversation B by a guy: “This shop seems to be everywhere nowadays. What are they arh?”

As someone who’s a guy and has wondered what they are, I’ve taken the liberty to dig out more details about this chain.

So here are eight facts about this chain that I reckon would be in almost every shopping mall soon.

The Green Party is Super Young in Singapore

If you’re like me, you’d wonder why this chain’s out of your radar in the past.

Well, you’re wrong. There was no past.

According to what is seen on Green Party’s Facebook Page, its first store seems to open only in 2018, which means it’s rather new here in Singapore.

With its lack of online presence, it’s hard to tell which outlet came first: it’s either the Downtown East Outlet or the Northpoint City outlet.

14 Stores in Singapore So Far

In a short span of a year, the chain has grown to 14 outlets, with the latest ones in West Mall, nex, City Square and Paya Lebar Quarter.

That’s like one new outlet per month in a competitive place like Singapore.

Power to them, indeed.

Established Since 2014 in China

While it is rather new in Singapore, it’s pretty well-established in China, with it being founded in 2014.

And lest you’re not aware, they’re only operating in China and Singapore.

Over in China, they have well over 400 retail outlets, so it’s a big retailer. No wonder they can expand aggressively in Singapore, eh?

Now, to the most frequently asked question: does the “Green” stands for environmentally friendly?

“Green” Products

We’d be familiar with their big carrot at the shopfront:

But is it made of, say…real carrot?

We won’t know, but according to its website, they do focus on “environmentally friendly approaches”. Here’s the full text for you to interpret yourself:

“The Green Party is leading towards the natural concept as a green retailer, with the vision of furnishing trendy and innovative green products to our consumers’ lifestyle. We incorporated the focus of environmentally friendly approaches to our innovation of products as our synergized effort of green retailing. Adhering to the great essence of styles, our exquisite ranges of products are contemporary with the fusion of quality that brings comfort to your daily needs of hassle-free living, and to also aid our consumer towards the practical sustainability of green commitment through the usage of our products.”

My only question is this: How?

It’s not mentioned, and the products I’ve bought from the shop (yes, I’m a fan of this chain, TQVM) don’t have any indication of how I’m saving the earth when I give the cashier my hard-earned money.

But anyways.

Over 8,000 SKU and 100,000 Products

The Green Party is like Miniso or Daiso: they merely sell their own products, and The Green Party has a total 100,000 products.

Not all of them are in Singapore, but if you’ve only enough budget to buy one stuff, this would be it: the singing flower.

Maybe it saves the environment because you won’t be buying a real flower #justsaying

Made Popular By Stocking Soft Toys at the Shopfront

Admit this: you’ve stopped when you walked past any outlet because of the soft toys they placed at the shopfront.

Go to any outlet and you’ll see the same arrangement.

The chain is well-known for placing soft toys at their entrance to attract customers, and needless to say, it has worked.

It’s, however, different in China.

Guess we Singaporeans just love fluffy stuff.

And here’s one pro tip for you: if any of the soft toys interests you, go in and grab one that’s inside the shop. They have similar soft toys within the shop, too, and they’re not hugged by countless drooling kids who cannot resist them.

Now on Shopee Mall

With COVID-19, every business is going online, and that includes The Green Party.

The brand now also sells its products in Shopee, and yes, they do sell the big carrots as well. Plus many other soft toys that you don’t need but would still eventually buy.

Durable Items (so far)

Despite Green Party’s relatively affordable products, their products are pretty durable.

And it’s not based on hearsay. I’ve their items in both my home and office, and they’re unlike those Taobao items that’ll break into two pieces when you drop them.

My big carrot pillow is still going strong despite my abuse, and my neck pillow hasn’t broken after prolonged use (I promise I didn’t use it in the office, boss).

But of course, it has only been a few months so I won’t know if they’ll Taobao soon, but hey: there must be a reason why they can expand so quickly, right?

So, there you have it, 8 facts about the Green Party. Are you planning to go there soon?
