So we all know that I’m a huge fan of Marvel and the MCU.
Which means you can safely assume that I’m SUPER excited for the next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
(Super excited…superhero movie…see what I did there? Heh heh.)
In case you didn’t already know, the next movie to be released from the MCU will be Ant-Man and the Wasp.
A lot of people are saying that it’s going to be a tough follow-up to Infinity War just because it was such an epic movie.
And it’s not just because of all the heroes from the various MCU movies coming together. The storyline, cinematography, humour, costumes, setting and so on was seriously on point.
Infinity War is going to be an iconic movie of our time for sure. Just watch.
But I think that we shouldn’t be seeing Ant-Man and the Wasp as a ‘follow-up’ movie to Infinity War.
Instead, we should be judging it as a lead up to Avengers 4.
Why’s that?
Glad you asked, keep reading to find out because I’ll be giving you 8 facts about the upcoming movie that will make you wet your pants in anticipation to go watch it.
I suggest you read this at home. Please don’t wet your pants in public.
1. Singapore release date.
If you’ve read some of my other articles to do with the MCU, you know that I can’t just talk about a movie without talking about the release date.
If not, what’s the point right? The movie is set to be released in theatres near you on 4 July.
That’s not that long away so it is time to start making plans with your friends to go catch it. Book your tickets (and friends) in advance because I’m expecting tickets to sell out really fast.
And you know that if you ask your friends to go with you closer to the date, they will have 13 Reasons Why they cannot.
Heh, heh. See what I did there?
So make your arrangements in advance.
2. The movie is meant to ‘cleanse your palette’ from Infinity War.
It hurts, didn’t it, when MCU killed off half of the universe by way of Thanos. And together with it, some of our beloved heroes.
“Mr Stark…I don’t wanna go,” will always make my heart feel all the feels.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is actually meant to cleanse our palettes from the emotional hurricane we all endured.
Nothing in the movie will even nod towards Infinity War. It will be completely separated from it.
I think this is smart. Everyone is still reeling from the losses. So setting Ant-Man and the Wasp in a timeline BEFORE Infinity War, and making it a lighthearted comedy is quite the intelligent move.
We get to see the humorous side of Marvel with the superheroes just going about doing their superhero stuff. Basically all the key things that made us fall in love with MCU in the first place.
Gives us a bit of a ‘palette cleanse’ before we jump back into the main plot when Captain Marvel gets released.
3. Ant-Man and the Wasp is gonna make Marvel Studios look good.
We all know that Ant-Man and the Wasp isn’t gonna be pulling in as much money as Infinity War and Black Panther did.
But that doesn’t mean that Marvel Studios is going to look bad. It’ll make them look good instead.
Marvel Studios is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. And no matter how much of a cult following they have, their image is still everything.
By releasing a smaller movie after the gargantuan ones, Marvel Studios can sit back and say, yep, this was always meant to be a smaller movie so that explains the smaller revenue.
Imagine if they released a huge movie and it didn’t do as well as Infinity War/Black Panther.
Embarrassing, right?
4. Ant-Man and the Wasp is not just a sequel to the first Ant-Man movie.
We already know that Ant-Man and the Wasp is a sequel to the first Ant-Man movie. We also know that the movie is gonna be set pre-Infinity War.
But did you know that it is also going to be a sequel to Captain America: Civil War?
Time to rewatch Captain America in time for July 4!
The movie will explore the aftermath of everything that went down in Captain America, Scott Lang’s motives behind helping the Avengers, how that affected his family and how the people in the “Ant-Man world” fared without him during that period of time.
Cool beans.
5. The Ghost.
The villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp is going to be the infamous Ghost. If you want some in-depth background on Ghost, visit this link.
I’ll break it down for you though.
Ghost is a whiz at inventing and hacking. His ability to interface with machines allows him to design an advanced bodysuit that gives him superhuman abilities.
This suit lets Ghost to become either invisible or intangible at will (though not both at the same time).
He is motivated by chaos and a love of punishing oppressive corporations.
And he’s been a real pest to Stark Enterprises. In other words, Ghost has always been Iron Man’s villain.
But in the coming Ant-Man movie, Ghost is going to be a woman and she will be reimagined as Ant-Man’s villain instead!
So that’s gonna be something interesting to watch out for.
6. This Ant-Man movie will be the Wasp’s official big-screen debut.
Before the upcoming Ant-Man movie, the Wasp never really got her big screen debut.
Which is quite surprising since she is the last founding member of the comic book Avengers team still yet to make her big screen debut.
She was featured in a flashback sequence but that’s about it. This movie will propel her into the big screen and as such, legitimise her launch into the MCU officially.
This is really cool, because they’ve already officially introduced every other comic book Avenger over the years.
And now in 2018, we get to see the final member of the team make her grand entrance – we’ll be witnessing a super special moment in MCU.
7. The Wasp is gonna be more than just Ant-Man’s sidekick.
And she gets a cooler costume than Ant-Man, who drools over it in the trailer, by the way.
She gets wings and blasters. And she doesn’t need to press any buttons to activate her suit.
If I was Ant-Man I’d be pretty envious too!
Hope van Dyke in the first movie was already prepared to be a superhero. She had trained for it her whole life and understood her father’s technology in a way that Scott Lang didn’t.
But she was put to the side because she was a girl. And when she finally got her suit at the end of the first movie, you could feel her thrill practically radiate off the screen.
So no, the Wasp isn’t Ant-Man’s sidekick. It’s a superhero team-up. And from what we see, she’s shaping up to be quite the badass team member.
8. Ant-Man and the Wasp will usher in Avengers 4.
Okay, so this is a theory, but a pretty plausible one.
The most popular fan-theory going around is that Avengers 4 will involve some sort of time travel. I’ve written a whole other article on that time-travel aspect, so give that a read.
With all the scientific stuff and technology in the Ant-Man world, it’s likely that Marvel will get real scientific and explore the whole Quantum Realm with us in the upcoming movie.
Because think about it – Ant-Man is able to shrink himself into a subatomic particle and roam the Quantum Realm to his heart’s desires, should he choose to do that.
Which means he can move through time and space like it’s a walk in the park.
By introducing and exploring the whole Quantum Realm, we are gonna be able to clearly see (for the first time after Infinity War) what Doctor Strange saw – that one in a million odds of the Avengers beating Thanos.
This is probably one of the biggest reasons I am incredibly psyched to watch the upcoming Ant-Man movie.
It’s gonna be a fantastic movie, and an even more fantastic lead-up to Avengers 4. At least it’s definitely shaping up to be that way.
