8 New Facts About The 26-Year-Old Guy Stomping of Grab Car Incident

Just yesterday, I penned an article on a recent incident in which a 26-year-old monkey, scratch that, human took it upon himself to stomp on a 72-year-old Grab driver’s car.

Pretty shitty behaviour, if you ask me, and I’m back to dish more dirt – I mean talk rationally about some new (relatively) facts that have popped up over the night.

So sit tight, grab a banana and let’s roll.

Or climb, whichever sways your tree.

1. The culprit has been unveiled

The perpetrator was unveiled as 26-year-old Chee Chu Siong just yesterday (7 May).

But if a Facebook comment was to be taken into context, the culprit’s identity might have been divulged long before the public reveal. Just read the comments here.

In other words, yay, netizens’ CSI is still faster.

2. He’s currently out on bail

Originally slated to be sentenced yesterday (7 May), Chee is currently out on bail of $5,000. He will return to court for his official sentence on 24 May 2018, so we still don’t know what’s next.

Yet. But moving on…

3. Penalty

If convicted, Chee could be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $2,500 for committing a rash act. That’s for the criminal act. Moving on to the civil case…

4. Does not wish to press charges

Mr Koh, the 72-year-old Grab driver in question, has told Stomp that he just wants to let the matter rest.

As long as Chee compensated him for the repairs and loss of income, Mr Koh said, he will not be pressing charges against the culprit.

But of course, that couldn’t be done on that day since the workshop is closed. So, come Monday…Chee was in for a surprise.

5. Compensation could be pretty hefty

According to Mr Koh, replacing the roof of his car (which had been subjected to a literal walkover by Chee) could cost upwards of $10,000.

“The roof of my car is fully aluminium, so it cannot be knocked back and has to be replaced.

“This replacement can cost more than $10,000.”

Indeed, according to Mothership, the total sum could actually stretch all the way to a whopping S$14,967.48.

Now, notice something? The mileage is 0? No, that doesn’t matter.

It’s this.

Adding that it’s Performance Motors Limited’s workshop, it could mean…

6. It’s a BMW 523i

Just for illustration purposes, here’s how a BMW 5-series looks like:

The grills already look like $ signs, and Chee still decided to jump on it. That’s a lot of balls involved.

In any case, I asked my colleague who also drove a 5-series (not 523i but still a 5-series) whether it cost that much to repair. His answer is pretty short and sweet: “I definitely won’t go to PML lah, Bro.”

Well, he’s a stingy BMW driver just like the $10 BMW driver.

Anyways, you can see his 5-series here, in this video that we did to explain the cost of car ownership:

7. Currently in negotiations

According to Mothership, Koh and his father were actually in negotiations with Chee on Sunday (6 May).

However, no firm agreement was reached, partly because the car service centre was closed and they were unable to get a quotation then. Now that the cost is broken down, it’s unknown whether Chee would pay the repair costs.

8. Crowdfunding

In the same interview with Mothership, Koh said that a man had actually expressed interest in aiding them via a crowdfunding exercise.

The family, however, declined the offer.

So if you read my previous article, you would know that I was thoroughly objective towards the perpetrator, Chee. But seeing how he has agreed to negotiations, I would say that at the very least, he has accepted the responsibility of paying for his mistakes, even if technically this is still an opportunity cost of sorts.

But hey, let’s give him the benefit of the doubt, and hope that things work out for the better eventually!

And while you’re giving him the benefit of the doubt, share this post to let people know what not to do to cab drivers or they will kena this, this and that.

And also, please, don’t jump on a BMW, or drive with $10 petrol.

Cheers, Zhi Hao out.
