It’s 2020, which means the e-scooter ban on footpaths has officially taken flight.
This means that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be using a zero-tolerance approach in enforcing the rule.
However, despite the constant warnings and every ounce of effort in trying to get people to comply, there are just some people who will never listen.

8 People Caught for Riding PMD on Footpath Since the Start of 2020
Eight offenders have been caught riding personal mobility devices (PMD) on footpaths in the first three days of 2020.
According to LTA’s Facebook post on Friday 3 January, the errant e-scooter users were caught in areas such as Ang Mo Kio, Commonwealth, Serangoon, Telok Blangah, West Coast and Woodlands.
LTA told The Straits Times that two offenders were caught on the first day of enforcement, and six in the second and third day.
These offenders could be fined up to $2,000, jailed for up to three months, or both.
The Footpath Ban
In case you were living under a rock, the footpath ban started on 5 November last year, due to a series of e-scooter related accidents. Up till Tuesday, the LTA had been issuing warnings to errant users.
The ban confines e-scooters to 440km of cycling paths islandwide, instead of the 5,500km of footpaths that riders could use before.
On the other hand, bicycles and personal mobility aids such as motorised wheelchairs will continue to be allowed on footpaths, cycling paths, and park connectors.
In the first quarter of this year, the ban is expected to extend to other motorised personal mobility devices, including hoverboards and unicycles.

So if you are one of those people who are still recklessly riding your PMD on the footpath, my advice to you is simply don’t.
Really, just don’t. It’s not worth the risk.
