8 Simple Hacks to Speed Up iOS 11 If You’re Using an Old iPhone

Yes, you’re probably still holding tissues and wiping tears away coz you realized you can’t really afford that iPhone X.

You’d have to eat one meal a day for at least a month before you could hold that baby in your hand.

But really, why not make the best out of what you DO have for the moment?

Upgrade to iOS 11. Here are the devices that support the new OS:

  • iPhone: 5s, 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X
  • iPad: 5th generation (2017); Mini 2, 3 and 4; all Air models and all Pro Models
  • iPod Touch: 6th generation (2015)

But what if your phone lags like crazy after that?

Well, you just have to make some tweaks on your existing iPhone to ensure you’ve got it running as close as it possibly can to the latest gen of iPhones.

If not, it would be like running Windows 10 on a Pentium II computer (okay, I exaggerate, but you get the idea).

Here’s 8 simple hacks you can do to help you and your iPhone out.

Clear Your Background Apps
If you’ve got a good number of background apps running, chances are that they’ll eat up into your memory usage, and make your iPhone run slowly. Clear as you go, and you’ll find that your phone works very much better.

Your iPhone’s Out of Memory/RAM Space
Speaking of memory, chances are if you’re using way too many applications at the same time, your speed will go downhill, simply because your iPhone’s got limited RAM space. Reduce its memory usage by closing your active apps, and you’re device won’t work like it’s sleepy anymore.

No More Storage Space
iPhone’s come with different capacities- 16GB, 32GB, 128GB, and finally 256GB. If you’ve got too many apps once again (check on your Settings tab for this), there’s data accumulated which causes your phone to get stuffed. Delete apps you’ve not used in ages or never intend to use again to help clear some airspace for your phone.

Too Many Videos and Photos Stored
You’ve got many HD videos and photos stored on your phone. Download them and store them on your laptop instead, or use iCloud, Google Photos and even Dropbox for this action. When you’re done, delete the duplicated pics and videos on your phone. Viola – more space freed up for better clarity on your phone’s new features.

Reboot Your Phone
When you’ve cleared up space on your gadget, restart your phone to give it the kick it needs to work at optimal capacity.

Offload Apps Through iOS 11
There’s a new option on iOS 11 which helps you manage your storage on your iPhone (finally, yaaas!) You get to delete the app you don’t want anymore, but keep documents and data you need. If you choose to reinstall later, you’d get your old data back.

Clear Your Cookies And Data on Safari
A simple task that takes swift action on your web browsing history. All you have to do is head over to Settings, and then Safari. Scroll down until you find the selection Clear History and Website Data, and it’ll clear up your browsing data, history and cookies too.

Stop Background Refresh
Apple devices work on the assumption that you’ve always got the best Internet speed and a huge memory space. Thanks to that, there’s a feature called Background App Refresh – one which runs on either WiFi or cellular data. PLEASE disable this, unless you’re ok with your battery running low every other time!
