With so many cafe establishments popping up, it’s not easy to find one that sets itself apart from the rest of its competitors. Located at Kampong Bahru, Old Boys Gallery prides themselves in serving food not only from the kitchen but also from the heart, with every single dish perfected to convey a form of art – just like the boisterous canvases and murals hung up on their walls to give the entire cafe a splash of vibrancy.
Plus, patrons can also purchase those canvases if they are interested! So, without further ado, let us present you 10 Valid Reasons Why You Should Visit Old Boys Gallery At Least Once in Your Life!
1. Their interior is perfect for your large group gatherings
As we stepped into the cafe, we were greeted by the colorful murals on the walls which were an instant mood lifter. The cafe uses the rich and vibrant interior to draw the crowd in – where they can bask in the comforts of the cafe over the various selection of craft beers offered.
2. They have a mini “love-lock” bridge
The cafe also has a mini “love-lock” bridge in the cafe for couples to lock their love there. Who knows, you might even return to this cafe for your wedding reception!
3. They sell monster milkshakes for only S$9
Okay, S$9 for a cup of milkshake might sound a tad pricey, but for a cup of Monster Milkshake like this? I would say that it’s quite a steal when other cafes are pricing it around S$15 – S$18.
As part of their new menu, Old Boys Gallery has introduced 3 Monster Milkshakes – Chocolate Hazelnut, Coconut, and Mixed Berries – with overflowing sweet treats stacked on these milkshakes that made them look so Instagram-worthy. Plus, they were not overly sweet!
4. Their appetizers are insanely appetizing
From Salted Egg Yolk Fries with Poached Egg, Spam Fries with Wasabi Dip to Marmite Wings, the range of appetizers at Old Boys Gallery are immense.
Just for their wings alone, they have up to 5 selections of sauces – Original, Pomodoro 4 Cheese, Salted Egg Yolk Butter, German BBQ and Honey Marmite Sauce to leave you spoilt for choice.
5. Salted Egg Yolk Fries with Poached Egg
Salted egg yolk fries are still in their storm of hype, but salted egg yolk fries with a poached egg? Well, that’s something you do not see every day. The fries are generously doused with fragrant salted egg yolk sauce, and even comes accompanied with an SEY dip if you can’t get enough of the sandy goodness.
And yes, we wiped it all clean because the sauce was simply too addictive.
6. They redefine Asian-Western fusion food
Fond de Veau Classic Osso Bucco (S$22)
Roasted Pork Aglio Olio (S$16)
This, my friends, was one of the best dishes served to us that afternoon. Their Roasted Pork Aglio Olio (S$16), also known as Sio Bak pasta, redefines the Asian-Western fusion hype. The roasted pork had the perfect ratio of meat to fats and the pasta too, was done to an al dente finish – a dish that will definitely appeal to the masses.
7. The excitement when you first slice open the toast
You know the feeling when you slice open a Shibuya toast and are greeted by the gorgeous filling on the inside? Well, that was exactly what we felt when we tore apart the Tomato Concasse Lamb Shank (S$28) and marvelled at the contents that spewed onto the buttered bread. The dish is prepared with a lamb shank braised with tomato concasse and served on a brioche butter bread.
8. Their burgers are not only delicious but are also equally stunning
“Manster” Beef Burger (S$20)
Chili Crab Volcano Burger (S$20)
Since cheeseburgers are becoming too mainstream these days, Old Boys Gallery has decided to up the ante by introducing new renditions of cheeseburgers such as the “Manster” Beef Burger, Truffle Portobello Wild Mushroom Burger, and the Chili Crab Volcano Burger.
Another thing we loved about Old Boys Gallery is that every ingredient is freshly prepared in house – down to the buns on their burgers. The “Manster” Beef Burger is served with a juicy homemade beef patty, bacon, and topped with a glorious sunny-side up. The Chili Crab burger, on the other hand, was crispy and light – perfect for a hearty lunch.
