Apple has unveiled its first foldable iPhone, and Singapore buyers who want the highest-storage version will have to prepare a rather foldable-wallet-unfriendly S$4,899.
The new iPhone Duo starts at S$3,099 for 256GB of storage. The 512GB model costs S$3,399, while the 1TB version is S$3,999. At the top of the range is the 2TB model at S$4,899.
Singapore customers can pre-order the phone from 8pm on 16 October, with general availability beginning on 23 October. It comes in two colours, Star White and Night Sky.
It Opens Into a 7.6-Inch Screen
The iPhone Duo uses a book-style folding design.
When closed, users get a 5.4-inch outer OLED display. Opening the phone reveals a 7.6-inch folding OLED screen, which Apple says is the largest display it has put on an iPhone. Both screens support ProMotion refresh rates of up to 120Hz, Always-On display functionality and outdoor brightness of up to 3,000 nits.
Apple has also given the inner screen a nano-texture finish intended to reduce glare and make the fold crease less noticeable.
Instead of relying on Face ID for authentication, the Duo has Touch ID built into its side button. Apple says support for the USB-C Apple Pencil will also arrive later in 2026, allowing users to write or draw on either display.
The phone runs on Apple’s new A20 Pro chip and uses a battery on each half of the device. Apple rates it for up to 24 hours of use when the inner and outer displays are used equally, or up to 44 hours of video playback when using only the outer screen.
Two 48MP Rear Cameras and No Physical SIM
On the back, the iPhone Duo has a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. The main camera also provides an optical-quality 2x zoom option, while the folding design allows the outer screen to act as a preview when someone is being photographed with the rear cameras.
There is another notable change for Singapore users: the iPhone Duo is eSIM-only worldwide.
Apple specifically lists M1, Singtel and StarHub among carriers supporting eSIM, meaning there is no physical SIM card slot on the device.
The phone is also rated IP68 for water and dust resistance and uses a titanium frame and hinge cover.
Apple Is Entering a Market Samsung Has Been Building for Years
Apple is arriving relatively late to foldable phones.
Samsung launched its first mass-market foldable devices in 2019 and has since gone through eight generations, while Chinese manufacturers such as Huawei have also competed in the category.
Apple’s iPhone Duo starts at US$1,999 in the US. Counterpoint associate director Liz Lee told Reuters that its price puts it only around US$100 above Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8, which starts at US$1,899 there.
For Singapore buyers, though, the more memorable number might simply be S$4,899.
That gets you 2TB of storage and, finally, an iPhone that can literally fold in half.
