Two people were taken to hospital after a fire broke out at an HDB flat in Bukit Panjang on Monday afternoon, 28 September.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at Block 126 Pending Road at about 3pm.
When firefighters arrived, black smoke was coming from a unit on the sixth floor. The fire involved items in the living room and was extinguished with one water jet.
One Person Found Unconscious in Living Room
During the firefighting operation, firefighters found an unconscious person in the living room and carried the person out of the flat.
An SCDF paramedic and emergency medical technicians performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, on the person before the person was taken to Woodlands Hospital.
Another person from a neighbouring unit was assessed for smoke inhalation and subsequently taken to Singapore General Hospital.
About 70 people from the block were evacuated as a precaution.
Cause of Fire Under Investigation
SCDF said the fire involved items in the living room, but the cause has not been established and remains under investigation.
In its post about the incident, SCDF also highlighted three common causes of fires in homes: cooking left unattended, electrical fires and unattended burning materials.
It advised residents to supervise cooking, avoid overloading electrical sockets and ensure burning items such as incense sticks and cigarettes are completely extinguished before disposal.
