Singapore & Malaysia to Raise Cross-Border Taxi Quotas to 500 Each; Zig & Kumpool Join From 16 Nov

Singapore and Malaysia will each raise their quota of licensed cross-border taxis from 300 to 500 from 16 November 2026, allowing up to 1,000 taxis under the scheme across both countries.

Travellers will also get two additional booking platforms that day: Singapore’s CDG Zig and Malaysia’s Kumpool.

The changes were announced by both countries’ transport ministries in a joint statement on 6 November, CNA reported.

Zig and Kumpool Join GrabCar

CDG Zig, which is part of ComfortDelGro, and Kumpool will join existing operator GrabCar under the enhanced Cross-Border Taxi Scheme. This brings the number of licensed ride-hailing operators under the scheme to three.

The higher quotas provide room for another 200 licensed taxis from each country, or 400 more in total.

In response to CNA’s questions about cross-border taxi fares, CDG Zig said it would announce further details later.

Where Cross-Border Taxis Can Pick You Up

The expansion follows changes that took effect on 4 May 2026, when each country’s quota increased from 200 to 300 taxis.

Those changes also allowed more flexible drop-offs. Licensed cross-border taxis can drop passengers anywhere in Singapore, and within the Malaysian operating areas of Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai and Senai.

Pick-ups in the other country are restricted to designated locations.

Singapore-registered cross-border taxis can pick up street-hail passengers at Larkin Sentral in Johor Bahru. They can also collect passengers through ride-hailing bookings at Toppen Shopping Centre, Mid Valley Southkey Mall and Angsana Mall.

Malaysia-registered cross-border taxis can pick up street-hail passengers at Ban San Street Terminal in Singapore. For ride-hailing bookings, they can also collect passengers at designated points near VivoCity, near Century Square in Tampines, and at Joo Koon MRT station.
