A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight bound for Singapore returned to San Francisco after a passenger became unruly and injured himself on board.
SIA confirmed the incident in a response to 8world. The pilots decided to turn back after assessing the situation, and the passenger was handed over to local authorities upon landing.
Returned After About Eight Hours and 40 Minutes
SQ31 departed San Francisco at 11:51am on 14 October, equivalent to 2:51am on 15 October in Singapore.
The aircraft landed safely back at San Francisco International Airport at 8:41pm local time that same day, or 11:41am on 15 October in Singapore.
That meant the flight was in the air for about eight hours and 40 minutes before returning, according to flight-tracking data reported by The Business Times.
Flight Departed Again With Replacement Crew
The delayed flight left San Francisco again at 11:18pm on 14 October local time, with a new set of crew members. This was 2:18pm on 15 October in Singapore.
SIA apologised for the disruption and said it was helping affected passengers, including rearranging connecting flights.
In its response to The Straits Times, the airline also thanked passengers and crew members who helped manage the situation on board.
SIA said it was working closely with the relevant authorities and that the safety of its passengers and staff remained its top priority.
