A video circulating online shows a young-looking person driving a bus around a heavy-vehicle car park at night, but their age and the circumstances of the recording remain unconfirmed.
The footage was shared on Facebook on 24 October. That is the reported upload date, rather than a confirmed date for when the driving took place.
Bus Driven Around Parked Trailers
Mothership described the footage as a screen recording from Snapchat. It shows the person steering the bus around a car park containing trailers, at times using one hand to turn the wheel.
Other voices can be heard inside the vehicle. One person questions how the driver knows how to drive and claims they have not received bus captain training.
Later, someone asks for the rear door to be opened, before the bus brakes and a bell sounds. The remarks in the recording do not independently establish the driver’s training or licence status.
“Bus 67” Caption Does Not Identify A Public Service
The footage carries the caption “Welcome on board bus 67”.
However, Mothership reported that the vehicle was not the actual public service 67 bus and did not belong to a public transport operator. The caption should therefore not be treated as identifying a public bus service involved in the incident.
Facebook uploader Zekrom Bendei Kaide told AsiaOne that he had received the clip through friends. He said he had not recorded it and did not personally know the driver.
AsiaOne said it could not independently verify the person’s identity, age or the circumstances shown.
Bus Licence Rules Require More Than An Age Estimate
LTA’s OneMotoring website states that applicants for a Bus Driver’s Vocational Licence must be at least 21.
Applicants must also hold a valid Class 3 or 3A Singapore driving licence and generally have held it for more than a year. The vocational licence covers driving private-hire, school and excursion buses associated with fare charges.
These requirements provide context, but do not establish whether the person in this particular recording committed an offence. Their age and licence status cannot be determined from their appearance.
