Traffic leaving Singapore through Woodlands Checkpoint backed up on Saturday morning (7 November), at the start of the Deepavali long weekend. The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in a 7.20am update that the queue had backed up from Malaysia and warned travellers to expect delays.
Tuas Had the Shorter Estimated Crossing Time at 9am
At about 9am, traffic app Checkpoint.sg put the crossing into Johor at about two hours via Woodlands and 40 to 60 minutes via Tuas, Lianhe Zaobao reported.
An earlier reading from the same app, reported by 8world, put the crossing at 85 to 130 minutes via Woodlands and 30 to 40 minutes via Tuas at 8.40am. Both sets of figures were estimates for traffic heading into Malaysia at those times.
ICA Expects Heavy Traffic Through Monday
ICA had warned on 1 November that both land checkpoints were expected to see heavy traffic from Friday (6 November) to Monday (9 November). Deepavali falls on Sunday (8 November), with Monday a public holiday in Singapore.
ICA advised travellers to check traffic conditions before setting off and to consider crossing outside peak periods. It directed travellers to its Facebook page for updates. The Land Transport Authority’s OneMotoring website also carries checkpoint traffic updates.
