Actress Anne Heche Has Died  After a Car Crash in Los Angeles

Hollywood actress Anne Heche, known for movies from the 1990s like Donnie Brasco and Six Days, Seven Nights, has been declared legally dead on 12 August 2022.

This comes a week after the 53-year-old crashed her car into a Mar Vista house, which burst into flames and left her with a severe brain injury and burns.

Injuries from Car Crash Quickly Escalated

On 5 August, Heche crashed her car and had to be rescued from the fiery scene. The fire was so heavy that it reportedly took 59 firefighters more than an hour to contain and fully extinguish the flames.

Heche was rushed to the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital in Los Angeles.

She was reportedly in stable condition after the crash, and was even speaking to the firefighters who cut her free from the crash scene. However, she lost consciousness shortly afterwards.

On 8 August, her representatives gave an update stating that she was in “extreme critical condition” and has went into a coma. Heche was declared “brain dead”, which is the definition of death under California law, on 12 August afternoon.

She has been taken off of life support, although her heartbeat was still being maintained in case it could be donated.

Blood Test Showed Positive Results for Drugs

Preliminary tests of Heche’s blood showed a positive result for drugs, according to local media reports on 11 August. Celebrity gossip magazine TMZ has said that the positive results were for cocaine and fentanyl.

However, more tests are needed to ensure that the drugs weren’t administered during her treatment in the hospital. Specifically, fentanyl is sometimes used for pain relief in clinical settings.

It is still unclear why the car crash happened.
