Remember when Balenciaga had their rendition of our Pasar Malam bags and sold them for S$300? Now, we have ah-ma floor mats we used to wipe our feet at home with made into bags, and they too, cost well over USD200.
Well, welcome to the world of fashion because that’s where nothing ever makes sense.
And if you haven’t seen such mats before, well, they are usually mats we like to place at our homes to wipe our feet clean after we’ve gone out, or placed in front of the sink to make sure that the water doesn’t splash far when it hits the sink.
But this? Okay, at least it doesn’t look half as bad compared to the bags Balenciaga made. I can still probably foresee myself carrying this with a sundress or when I’m wearing a neutral outfit and need something to spice things up.
But hey, USD200 is a little too much. I can probably just sew it at home or something. #justsaying. Oh yes, and we haven’t factored in the shipping fees yet.
So, for those who are into this, maybe it’s time for some DIY at home?
But I mean, if you are someone who’s into such fashion statements, you can purchase them from Nomad Tribe Ship, an American-based online store that acts as a platform for small fashion companies to sell their stuff.
It’s funny how our everyday items can sometimes transform into a fashion statement for people living across the borders. Maybe it’s time we grab something from our homes and wear it out to kick-start the next fashion trend?
