In what is Aloysius Pang’s last appearance in a drama, the much vaunted From Beijing to Moscow premieres on Toggle this month.
Aloysius was tragically killed in a live-firing exercise in New Zealand earlier this year.
Despite showing initial signs of improvement after sustaining injuries on 19 January, he ultimately succumbed to them on 24 January.
Auditioned For Lead Roles
According to an interview with Shin Min Daily News on Wednesday (12 June), actress Jayley Woo, who was in a relationship with the late actor, shared that they had liked the script so much they auditioned for the drama’s lead roles together.
While Aloysius was cast in another role, Jayley did not get the part, in part due to lacking life experiences at that time, said the actress who is now 27 years old.
The actress shared she had no regrets however on missing the chance to work with Aloysius.
“Everything happens for a reason,” she added.
Attending The Drama’s Private Preview
On June 11, Jayley had the chance to attend the drama’s private preview.
In the series, Kenneth, portrayed by Aloysius, quietly watches over Xiaoqi, who tries to help her husband Kaixiang, portrayed by River Huang, regain his memories after an accident.
In reel as in real life, Jayley added that Aloysius is “watching over her.”
Choking up with tears during the interview, she said it was “unbelievable” and felt that “he’s still around.”
She admitted to feeling that “some things…he said in the show were meant for me”.
Treasuring Your Loved Ones
Jayley felt that Aloysius’ role in the drama helped to remind everyone to treasure their loved ones.
In an Instagram post on June 11, after the drama’s private preview, she wrote a post regarding her late boyfriend, “I have finally mustered the courage to see you today. You are still my bae-bae.”
Aloysius’ Legacy
Aloysius started acting in 1999 at the age of nine in My Teacher, My Buddy (1999).
In 2014, he was named one of the 8 Dukes of Caldecott Hill and won the Best Newcomer prize at the Star Awards 2015.
From Star Awards 2013 to Star Awards 2016, he was nominated for Favourite Male Character and was awarded the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes in 2016.
Aloysius is survived by his parents and two brothers.
