On 24 Sep, a disgruntled supermarket at Ang Mo Kio took to Facebook to express displeasure with a man who has been harassing the staff there for years.
Apparently, the man has been at it for years and despite making police reports, nothing was done about it.
Well, it seems that something’s being done about it now.
Man Who Bullied AMK Supermarket Staff For Years Arrested For Trespassing
According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the man in question was arrested a day after the incident on 25 Sep 2020, Friday.
They were alerted to the incident at Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 on Thursday at around 6.15pm.
The supermarket had previously banned the man from entering the shop.
Also, the man was not wearing a mask, which is compulsory for everyone except if they have a medical excuse or are kids under the age of six.
Even when he was asked to leave, he had “sprouted profanities” at the staff.
The man was arrested for his “suspect involvement in a case of criminal trespass”.
He is also being investigated for breaching the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act as well as “intentionally causing harassment” under the Protection From Harassment Act.
He is to be charged in court today, and if found guilty, could be facing up to three months’ jail, or fined up to S$1,500, or both for criminal trespass.
For the charge of intentional harassment, he could be jailed up to six months, fined up to S$5,000, or both.
What Happened
On 24 Sep 2020, Facebook user Daniel Tan shared a supermarket’s CCTV footage in a Facebook post.
In the footage, a man in a grey shirt without a mask was seen approaching the counter which was manned by two staff.
He had wanted to speak to the person in charge.
A man in a black shirt, who was also at the counter, replied to him, saying he has no time for him.
Pushing on, the man in the grey shirt pointed to the staff at the cashier and said, “She said don’t step inside.”
After being told that he can’t enter the shop without a mask, the man in the grey shirt then hurled vulgarities at the staff before leaving the store.
In the same post, it was alleged that this isn’t the first time the man had harassed staff at the shop.
He added that the Singapore Police Force was unable to help them despite the clear harassment.
He has tried all ways, including banning the man from the shop to no avail.
It was additionally claimed that because of the man, Angel Supermart “have had supervisors and staff who quit in fear”.
The man allegedly makes personal threats against the safety of their staff as well.
He had urged the authorities to take action and render assistance to his outlet.
