Offences Carry Fines And Possible Jail Terms
Under Section 147(1) of the Women’s Charter, keeping, managing or helping to manage a “place of assignation” is an offence. The term refers to a location where contact is made with a woman or girl, directly or through an intermediary, for an immoral purpose.
A first conviction carries a fine of up to S$100,000, up to five years’ jail, or both. Repeat offenders can face a fine of up to S$150,000, up to seven years’ jail, or both.
For the alleged unlawful lottery activity, police cited Section 18(1) of the Gambling Control Act 2022. A first-time offender convicted under this provision faces a fine of up to S$500,000 and up to seven years’ jail.
Police said they would continue working with other government agencies to tackle unlawful activities that threaten public safety and community order.
