As the end of 2017 draws near, Goody Feed shares the joy of Grab and the Chow family, who recently welcomed a baby who was born on a GrabCar ride in Singapore!
What happened?
On 21 November, 2.42am, GrabCar driver Mr. Mohammad Fazli picked up passengers Mr. Reuben Chow and Mdm. Cindy Lim.
According to Mr. Chow, they were on their way to Mount Alvernia Hospital as Mrs. Chow wasn’t experiencing regular contractions. However, just before the couple left the house, Mrs. Chow’s contractions intensified and escalated very quickly.
“We took some time and effort to even get into the car and, barely a minute or two into the ride, my wife said that the baby was arriving! We had to improvise on the spot and it was such a relief to hear the baby’s first cry,” Mr. Chow adds.
Within the 5 to 7-minute drive to the hospital, the couple became parents to a baby girl in the backseat of Mr Mohammad’s Toyota Altis.
“I was definitely shocked when I noticed that Mdm Cindy Lim was in labour — I have never been in such a situation while being on the job! I did my best to stay calm and focused on driving them safely to the hospital. Thankfully, it was a short drive and the night traffic was smooth,” said Mr. Mohammad Fazli.
Our Hero
We applaud Mr. Mohammad Fazli for he did more than what was expected. After arriving at the hospital, he immediately alerted the hospital staff about the situation and they brought Mrs. Chow and the newborn into the emergency room.
Most importantly, he waited patiently for Mrs. Chow, who had some difficulty getting on at the pick-up point and did not cancel the ride after he realized what was going on.
And how can we not celebrate this new life? We welcome Elora-Fae Chow, Singapore’s second GrabCar baby into the world!
During a reunion Grab organized for the couple and driver-partner at its office in Midview City on 13 December, GrabCar Singapore head Mr. Andrew Chan presented the Chows with a Grab voucher worth $8,000, and a Grab onesie for their baby daughter.
In appreciation of Mr. Mohammad Fazli for his effort and help, he was also awarded fuel vouchers worth $800.
“We couldn’t have been more proud of our driver-partner, Fazli, who remained calm and brought both the parents and baby safely to the hospital. Our heartiest congratulations to Reuben and Cindy and the latest addition to their family, we’re really glad to be part of this joyous occasion!” said Mr. Andrew Chan, Head of GrabCar Singapore.
He also received a hand-drawn thank-you card from the couple’s five-year-old daughter, Sarah-Ann. Such a sweetie!
Congratulations from all of us at Goody Feed too! Grow up well, baby Elora-Fae. 🙂
